Third Brake Light Leak

I lived in Seattle in the late 80s/early 90s and my mom worked at Bellevue college at the time, she was offered a senior secretary like position at Microsoft for like $30k per year (would've actually been a small pay raise compared to teaching), she didn't take it because she valued being in education.... but one of her best friends took a very similar position. By 1995 her friend was a fucking millionaire and still retired to this day. If she had only known lol.

 

Gotta love stock options! I think everyone knows at least 1 person that either sold their MSFT too early/late, or became a millionaire off of it lol.

You wouldn't even recognize Seattle now...the southlake union area is completely different. Very metropolitan and yuppy. I miss the old grungy Seattle.

I’m raising hell about this issue with Toyota, but it looks like I’ll be paying for repairs myself seeing as i’m 5,000 miles over my manufacturers warranty.

I bought my 2017 4 door sr5 used about 2 months ago and just learned about this ongoing issue.

Toyota says they’ve never heard of it happening... but all of you guys have.

 

Just made an appointment for Wednesday mine is leaking as well, 2017 DCSB SR5 4x4 Bought mine January of 2017.

"Some 2016 – 2018 model year Tacoma vehicles equipped with an LED type center high mount stop lamp may exhibit a water leak into the rear of the cab. Upon closer inspection, it may become apparent that the water leak is coming from the space between the center high mount stop lamp and the body of the vehicle."

"This repair is covered under the Toyota Basic Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date."

 

Just bought my 2017 TRD Off-Road a few weeks ago and went into the dealer complaining of some dampness on the rear seat after a heavy rain. They tore apart my entire interior and found a bunch of white mold. Pretty nasty stuff... Luckily I only have 24,xxx miles on it and its covered by the factory warranty though. I'm pretty pissed a major issue like this happened so soon after I bought the truck and now I'm going to be out a truck for month at a minimum!! Maybe I should work to get a Leather interior is they are just going to toss the old stuff out.

 

So, unfortunately for me, I bought my truck new in January '17 with 5 miles on it. It now has 89k miles and recently started leaking. I'm pushing it with corporate and arguing the rust and corrosion clause of the warranty. Obviously I'm well off the factory warranty (that only lasted 8 or 9 months). going to take it in to Vancouver Toyota since Dick Hannah has turned in to an utter joke. hopefully I can get their service writer on my side with the issue.

 

So what’s the home fix to prevent this?

 

I have a 4k mile road trip next week. I think I'm going to tape it off and use some black RTV or

$23 3M 5200 (06500) Permanent Bonding and Sealing for Boats and RVs Above and Below the Waterline Waterproof Repair, White, 10 fl oz Cartridge

3M 5200 to seal it up.

 

They have had mine for a little over a month now. Still waiting on some part on backorder.
