What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

That's not actually true, it's a myth that people came up with probably because when buying used engines from Japan, they were claimed to not have more than 50K k/m (about 30K mi) on them.

What is true is the safety inspection that's required every 1-3 yrs depending on the type of vehicle which is expensive. There's plenty of old & high mileage cars in Japan registered for the street. You just gotta pay more. There's an old car tax too but not sure how that works.

But what you can't do is get away with a fraction of the crap we can here in the states. Like driving without bumpers, hoods, fenders, headlights, etc. I mean yeah you can get ticketed or a warning for stuff like that here but in Japan you'll get red flagged for not allowed to drive on streets.

 

Don't ship your truck to Japan, buy a diesel Hilux over there and ship it home!!! Even if you don't want a Hilux you could probably sell it to someone here for a nice profit.

 

Tried my experiment with Plastidipping my hood. Not perfect results, masking tape didn't want to cleanly come away from the dip, pulling it up in several places. This was a concern going in. But it was only a temporary spray, to see if I liked the look of the hood with a flat black panel. I'll give it a while, and then either just peel it off, or peel and paint with "real" paint. Anyway, here is the results:

 

You see it....it fits well I think.adds a little rigidness to the axle and hold more fluid for better temp handling...

 

I did my roof to cover up the peeling clear coat. On your last coat you have to immediately remove the tape while it's still wet, otherwise it will pull like you experienced.

 

Meh do what Ben does, posts a few pics here and then the rest in his travel thread. I enjoy seeing the pics because I don't get to use my truck like you do every weekend.

Meh just throw that bitch in 4-lo and bee-bop around town. You can only go like 30 mph in 5th without screaming at like 4-5k rpm. That's what I do in traffic and I never have to tough the clutch typically

 

I crawled under it this morning in search of what is making bad noises. Rear U-joint is about to die & the CB need replaced. I also have a torn CV boot but everything else seems fine. And I thought the noise was coming from the front... Time to order some parts. Should I do a CB Drop? I doubt that is what caused the U-Joint to fail but maybe?

 

Id probably do that if I actually went somewhere, but I usually just go up one of the mountains around me and mess around

If you have the push button transfer case you can disconnect the blue connector and have 2wd low, it's awesome.

 

nice, you've got my same front end - including (or is that excluding) the upper bumper guard and those metal pieces under the headlights!

 

I have to put the front lift brackets on the bumper

 

It does disable/turn the light on. On a cool side note, I just hit the button with the truck on but not running and heard the accuator for the first time ever.

 

Where did you get that BPV bracket from? I got the Trail Gear one but it doesnt work; I have that same bolt in the way right above the bottom of the bracket on the diff.

Thanks. Yeah the TG one doesn't have that angle to it (is just straight)....says it's for 04s but in the instructions it doesn't show that bolt being in the way, shows it being off to the side more. So there's obviously a difference in some trucks that they didn't account for; that BAMF one would work perfectly.

 

I’ve been meaning to get one as well, after re-adjusting my rear brakes and noticing the difference they can make I wanna get them 100% back in the game.
