So I just wasted a bunch of time reading some of these. My favourite was a driver covered in frosted flakes:

"Officer Furbay observed a vehicle swerving in and out of its lane. Suspecting that the operator may be driving under the influence, the vehicle was pulled over. The operator was covered in frosted flakes cereal and claimed he was having a diabetic problem. EMS was contacted to ensure he was okay. A license check revealed the operator had been arrested four times previously for driving while his license was suspended. After being cleared by EMS, the operator was arrested for felony habitual driving while license suspended. A search incident to arrest of the vehicle revealed two packages of methamphetamine, a marijuana cigarette, a scale, cash, and some paraphernalia. The operator was charged with felony possession of narcotics and for possession of narcotics with intent to distribute."
Also amusing was the spider monkey at Home Depot:

Investigator Alford and Officer Krasco investigated a captive wildlife incident at the Home Depot store. After the investigation, it was determined that the owner of a spider monkey had failed to control her pet monkey in a manner to protect the public from physical contact that resulted in injury. The owner of the spider monkey was issued two criminal citations related to the possession of captive wildlife and public contact.

It's crazy how often this happens, and will keep happening because the penalties are minor to non-existent compared to the $ they make. At least something here is being done. There was an effort in the works to put a voter initiative on the ballot that would have enacted really restrictive measures on personal data collection and use. The companies to be affected were, of course, not enthusiastic about it so they (mostly) signed on to this less restrictive law.

    https://www.cnet.com/news/californias-new-data-privacy-law-the-toughest-in-the-us/

"The new law grants consumers the right to know what information companies are collecting about them, why they are collecting that data and with whom they are sharing it. It gives consumers the right to tell companies to delete their information as well as to not sell or share their data. Businesses must still give consumers who opt out the same quality of service.

It also makes it more difficult to share or sell data on children younger than 16.
    "

I’ve opted out of everything that I could and even enquirer about some programs that hid their opt out features. The problem I have is how do they prove that they’ve actually complied? And once they’ve sold your data your opt out doesn’t cover what’s already out there and they refuse to list who they sold it to so in the end, either way your fucked.

I got burnt twice by ID theft and now can’t even get a home equity line of credit on a house that I own free and clear for anything near a reasonable rate.
