Ok, please learn me --- why do people steal catalytic converters?

Is it because they contain a valuable material that can be parted out?

Is it because there's some underground used-cat market?

I've never heard of this! (Serious question)

On the 3rd Gens, there are two bars installed between the frame and cross member to help prevent this also.

Folks usually have to remove these to install skid plates.

Hell no. I'm not a Benny Bolt-on. All I bought was a bed mat.
Unfortunately, since I got a ring doorbell (and get neighborhood crime reports), I learned it is common. Two Prius's got hit this week- stolen converters.

Very common in Chicago, Honda Elements are the #1 vehicle for this it seems. It’s fast, quick, and easy to do and I believe you get $50-100 for each and you’ll always find a Junkyard willing to take them. One Element owning friend said it was almost a $2000 claim on his Insurance. Usually happens at night. If you can’t understand why you’ve never had to withdraw from Heroin or tried Meth.

Keep the engine running. The cat will be too hot for the filthy thieves to touch.

Well if anybody has any doubts of theft on a 3rd Gen, my taco is proof that it can happen. Woke up this morning with it sounding like it had a rice-burner exhaust on. After inspecting we realized some tweekers or whatever sawed off my cat. And I supposedly live in a safe neighborhood. Happens everyday around here, that's why many forums lock old threads.

A friend of mine who works at a garage was just telling me that they are seeing an increase in folks coming in who'd had their cats stolen.

This is my best recommendation. Just keep them from getting under there in the first place...

IMO, I would rather see folks searching, resurrecting threads, and posting new stuff than creating the same threads over again.

I imagine how much nicer it would be if we didn't have a new tire rub, AT complaint, or brake light leak thread every other day.

    Just my opinion.

Yup, people get prodded for replying to an old thread, blasted for not searching. It seems like people on here just like to be miserable, it explains all the complaints about the trucks.

True, I'd rather contribute to an old thread and consolidate solutions than sift through 1000 separate threads...

I would imagine it's due to thieves not being able to make their usual money by breaking into homes or other methods of stealing.

Hard to steal stuff when everyone is home all day and you're one of the five people in the store that security can keep eyes on.
