The "moral dilemma" part is easily remedied by doing a private sale on CL or TW. You'll remain an honest broker and someone else will be thrilled with the near-new tent they got and saved a few bucks (but probably not much).

 

Nah, haven't even removed it off the truck yet. Been busy with the holiday weekend and work. I can't believe so many people replied to this post. I anticipated 4-6 would answer.

 

Just take it back. You and your tent ain’t gonna break REI or save them if you don’t. I promise your $1700 will mean more to you than it does to them.

You can always do what my dad does, and buy the most top of the line gear, use it once, put it in the damp garage so it gets ate up by mice and dry rots, then offer to sell it to me for the same price you gave for it 9 years later.
