I have to agree, too much emphasis is placed on the need for a 240v Mig machine. I fell for it 20 years ago. Today's 120v machines are more than capable to do 90percent of any jobs a Mig unit can do.

Do consider getting cover gas. You will be amazed at the results. It really is worth it.

Flux core is useful, but just not that usefull unless you do a lot of outdoor welding. It does win when the wind is blowing hard. A heavy wind will blow your cover gas away resulting in some very pourous welds. Flux core needs no cover gas, so it is uneffected by a breeze.

If you switch between the two, don't forget to switch the polarity of your welder.

I've got the tee shirt like most of us on this thead.

I guess I’m in the minority here. I have to work material anywhere from 18ga to 1” plate to aluminum. I like the versatility of a bigger machine. I usually run .030 or .035 and don’t hit the controls much just speed up or slow down. We have all had to find our own way I guess. As long as it’s solid that’s all that matters

Meh I think the 120v older Lincoln’s work fine too. Couple friends would agree...

No question, but I see so many that are brainwashed into believing that a 240 machine is the only thing exceptable.

Ya know, we still have the older one and have a new one also. The older one just works better.

Not me. I’m have to use them both. I get the feeling everybody thinks I’m trying to bash a 120 machine which was never my intent. I couldn’t start to figure out how many miles of .023 I’ve burned through a 140. Climbing around some of the big crap I have to work on I’ll gladly use a smaller lighter gun if it does what I need. I just like to burn hot and if ya m going to have one machine at the house I want it as versatile to me as possible. Besides I had to run a 50a 220 circuit anyway for the plasma cutter

Can you do the class again? Might be worthwhile.

Yes, edge of bead (looking at the long bead down the middle). The image is to dark to see much for the upper welds.
Cold, on the edge of the bead I can see where the bead flows into the base metal (good), and other places where it look like a bubble sitting over the base metal. I can't see the meeting of the weld and base so it may be good or not. Maybe a picture from perpendicular to that edge would be helpful.

Built the trailer for a customer in 2000. Customer reported that there was some corrosion, and could I patch the damaged parts?

    This what showed up...IMG_20180629_153451.jpg IMG_20180629_153451.jpg IMG_20180629_163001.jpg

    phone giving me static...stand by.

Just a plain, old production weld. Bare minimum amount of wire and best speed for quality penitration.

I prefer the looks of a flatter, or concave type of weld.

When you buy your own wire by the 44# spool, you find ways trim expenses.

When you do lots of repeditive projects, you find that you have lots of time to do math in your head while welding.

    Yep.

Fortunately he just put those wheels on last fall and didn't do a lot of hauling.

I'm not judging. I did it too, when I was a kid.

I'm kinda wondering if his boy did this? He would be about the age I was when I made the same mistake.

Regardless, no damage and I get to make some money for my next fishing trip.

    True, you gotta learn somehow.

We had a guy in high school that literally installed a spare backwards...didn't go well.

Got the winch plate mounted, but I’m worried the top mounting surface is too close to the bottom of the body. Isn’t there a lot of flex in the body of cars?

Not after that winch base is bolded to the frame.

I think you will only be making it stronger.
