Good morning Susan and fellow geezers. A jogging morning, so getting my butt in gear.
"Won" another old stove on the bay of evil yesterday morning real early, a "N" dated one, =1924 stove, Primus 96, parts missing, but I don't care, I bought some sorry looking stoves just to harvest parts off of. Gives me a run of stoves 15 years long, my longest string so far. If I could find a few other years, could stretch that to 18 years and then some.

    Morning all:
Ken, just looked at a base single cab Tacoma on that site for almost10K to almost 15K :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:! The dealer that has the one listed for almost 15K is just a few miles North of me. Now I know why I just got a letter from a dealer saying "most dealers would value your vehicle at $5675", and that they would be willing to pay more than current top competitor price! Looks like my neighbor might be getting a good deal!!!
Well, at least I get the satisfaction of knowing I screwed them out of a few extra thousand by not trading it!!!! :D

We've had a robins' nest in our forebay for the past few years. This year I managed to capture the development of their second brood on camera using a "trail cam" -- a rugged, motion-activated outdoor camera.

Our robins left the nest early this morning. I got a real earful this morning when I took the trash out at 6am -- two of the brood had *just* left the nest and were hopping/flying around the yard and driveway! There must have been a dozen robins in all out there. Mom and pop robin were yelping and flapping and diving at me. I managed to escape unscathed. :)

You can follow their story in pictures at the link below. I put the pictures in an album in chronological order. The grayscale pictures are nighttime, or low enough light that the camera thought so.

Duane: It is not that hard but it is time consuming. Toyota markets their vehicles regionally which means the price really does not vary from dealer to dealer. The good thing is if a dealer 100 miles from you has the vehicle you are looking for then it will be shipped to your dealer.

If you want I can go into greater detail but basically make sure you understand the total price of your car.
    1. sales price
    2. tax
    3. delivery charge
    4. dealer prep
    5. finance cost
    6. If you use money from an IRA for payments the tax you pay on the withdrawal from the IRA

Remember if you use a Toyota 3K to 5K off the sticker cost you still have to pay the sales tax on that amount.

For us 0% financing over 72 months was the incentive we wanted, no matter how had the sales guy want us to take the 3K incentive. The reason why is we are paying the monthly payment from my IRA. Currently I take out and extra 30% to pay the tax on the IRA money. (everyone pays taxes on money unless it is illegal money) My wife will be retiring in 2 years so our income will be less. At that time I will reduce the tax on IRA withdrawals to 15% a savings of close to $1500 on the cost of the car. Sales people just do not get it at all.

I shopped for over a year for our car at first trying to get into a 2016 Avalon Limited for $37,500 out the door. Got them down to $38,200.

We bought a 2017 Avalon Touring for $36,034 out the door. The list price was $39,420. Toyota is very secretive concerning the price to the dealer so trying to determine their cost is your best guess. But judging for the cost of the same car at other local dealerships I believe Toyota offered our dealership an extra $1,000 off their cost for our specific car on their lot. The financing changed to 0% over 72 months on July 4th. We bought the car on July 5th. There were 3 exact same Avalon Touring in the same color on the lot. All three were gone by July 8th.

Basically knowing what you want to pay, be realistic, and pricing over the long haul is the key. If you know what the car cost in February and then in July it is suddenly 1K lower it is time to buy. In July the 2018's were om the lot and Toyota wanted the 2017 gone.

Remember you are the one with the money and in control at the dealership. Walk away if you have to.
Hope this helps you a little.

It's going to be awhile before I buy again, I paid cash for my current vehicle. I've heard many times of people only paying $500 over invoice for a new car, but that may not be for a popular vehicle.

Invoice pricing has been out of vogue for almost 20 years now. It is almost impossible to determine the invoice price unless you keep the books for a dealership. The term is used in advertising but it is meaningless nowadays.

You really have to compare the price of the same car from multiple sources and dealerships.

I have always thought buying a new car is a challenge to find the best deal. Do not be in a hurray and determine what a decent price actually is.

Well at least I figured out how to start it, and I'm sure I'm going to be doing A LOT of reading in the owners manual for awhile, darn new fangled contraptions!
The salesman really went over all the basics with me, but I definitely will need a hands on approach until I figure everything out.
When I ordered it in they asked if I wanted step bars> no, wheel locks> no, and they said it didn't have mud flaps and if I wanted them it would be extra. When I picked it up it had the mud flaps and wheel locks on it and they said they would include them at NC, all that tells me is that they made too much money on the sale!
I really liked my base regular cab, driving this one home was a pleasure though, think I'll be very happy with it.
I'm happy, neighbors happy, dealers happy, everyone is happy!!!!

Thanks Ken, but it won't take long for it to get dirty! :(
I hope I live long enough to enjoy it for many years, would hate to not get most of my moneys worth out of it! Heck, now I have a good reason to hang around for awhile! :D

Welcome Tom, sounds like you are just joining us, pull up a chair on the porch and shoot the bull with the rest of us.
