They did but the instructions show it mounting up front by the steering rack. Says that's where my e-brake bracket should be but it's toward the rear...I'm learning that these instructions aren't very trustworthy, I'll see if I can install it in the rear and make it work

Yeah this is where I'm confused, the pics show a Tacoma like that as well but mine doesn't have one and doesn't have any sign that one was ever there....weird

According to the instructions, this bracket is supposed to be up front by the steering rack and that's where I'm supposed to install the supplied crossmember, while the rear of the skid mounts to an "existing crossmember". Were there two styles of Tacoma 4x4s? This is strange.

not really related but i was looking at the FSM and noticed that the frame/crossmembers for the prerunner and the 4wd models does not look the same at all. I was under the impression that they were the same frame. learn something new everyday i guess...

It's possible, door jamb switches do go bad. Easy to test with a multimeter.

EDIT: BTW, driver side is easy to test, do you get the chime with your key in the ignition & the door open? Chime stops when you close the door? If yes then the driver side door jamb switch is working.

You have two doors, not likely for both door jamb switches to fail but again possible. If opening either door doesn't make the lamp turn on then it's probably the dome light switch. Take the lens off, you can see the connections. Test with a multimeter.

Did a little wheeling yesterday up near Silverton, CO. I've done a bunch of trails up there with my Dad in his Tacoma, but never in mine. Since I only live like a hour away, I figured why not. Excuse the smoke/haze in the photos, we've got a pretty massive wildfire burning up here.

Really not sure what it could attach to if it doesn't supply a bar of some sort.

Could be, just odd they don't mention that anywhere...but given the overall clarity and grammar of the instructions in general I'm not too surprised lol. Anyhow I think I'm getting it to work by using the supplied crossmember as the rear crossmeber....only issue is that the welded plates for my sliders are just every so slightly in the way making it slightly not-flush with the frame, but I think it'll still work.

Generally they're called door jamb switches. IIRC Toyota calls them courtesy lamp switches.

Tape seemed fine, had a nice crisp line. Perhaps I sprayed it on too thick, too close to the tape. Meh, if I decide I like the look, I'll do it the way I know how, with real paint. But I do like the fact that if I don't like this, no harm, just peel and forget.

It was surprisingly easy. Six bolts, and unhook the taillight wires.
