Anyone with Goodyear Duratracs start having uncurable vibration problems with half tread remaining?

I have to buy Goodyear to get the 50% credit. Otherwise I would get BFG KO2. Michelin AT2 doesn't seem aggressive enough.

I really like the looks of the Duratracs but if I'm not mistaken, does the siping only go about half way down the tread block?

Once you've lost that siping, the characteristics of the tire change, in my opinion???

I may be all wet here but it seems to me that Goodyear uses a fairly soft compound that is great when new but they wear fast. If they were siped to the root of the tread, they'd wear like crap.

I'm just not a Goodyear fan.

whats aggresive enough got to do with it, you bought aggressive the first time and it was a disaster with the Duratracs,if you want tires that have long lasting durability and great wear characteristics and superb on/off road handling than MICHELIN are the tires you need. if you bought tires for looks alone you will be right back where u are right now, money wasted.

So I'm going back to the Duratracs. It comes out to $55 per tire after the Goodyear prorated credit for the warranty and 4th of July rebates.

Hopefully this set will be better.

Good luck to you man. I'm done with DuraTracs personally.

After much research, I actually just pulled the trigger on a set of Falken Wildpeak A/T3W tires that were a lot less expensive than another set of Duratracs. I was thoroughly underwhelmed with the way my DuraTracs wore and from the sounds of it these Wildpeaks will probably do just as good if not better at a fraction of the price.

Between the 15% off coupon code that eBay was doing yesterday and the 4th of July sales at Discount Tire and tire buyer are doing right now it ended up being stupid cheap for a set of tires. I think all said and done I'm looking at $364 for a set of 4 tires before mounting and balancing. I don't know what kind of a prorated discount they're giving you for another set of Duratracs but my guess is it's probably still going to cost you more than that to get another set of Duratracs.

Didn't read every post but Duratracs are a 50/50 shot for balancing issues. I had to replace 2 back to back when I bought them because they wouldn't balance correctly. I just replaced them at about 30,000 because of cupping and balance issues causing vibration.

Did you get a prorated credit since you only had 30000 miles in them? Or did you buy pay 100% yourself for new tires?

see build...but not a whole lot
I've got 50k miles on mine and have had zero issues with vibrations. They've been rotated between 3-5k whenever I change oil. They still have plenty of life left in them too. At 45k there was still 9/32"

I just had replacement ones installed.

I'm not sure if Goodyear made some improvements or it just me but this replacement set is very quiet. When my original set was new, I remember it was fairly noisy.

Also this set is pretty good. 3 tires have 2lbs of road force and 1 tire has 10lbs. Required very little weight to balance. Pretty smooth on the highway.

We'll see how they hold up.

There is now a P metric version of this tire. Did you get that?

I got the 255/75-17 in the new P metric. What attracted me to it was the light weight: I measured it at 41 lbs. which is about the same as the light Cooper ATW. Not sure if it is fully sipped the entire depth of the tread but I have my own siping machine so will likely go at them if the sipes start disappearing half way.

Looking closely at the tire, I noticed they gave me load range E instead of load range C. The receipt says load range C.

I'm debating whether or not I should make them change to load range C because load range E will decrease my gas mileage. The concern is I might get some crappy out of round tires if I ask them to change to correct tires. The incorrect set has very low road force readings and required very little weight to balance.

They were even able to balance them without the Haweka adapter.

Goodyear is a mess when it comes to rating their tires, mine say LT but i bought C rated. I know they are C rated because of how they flex on rocks when i roll over them its just that goodyear doesnt understabd how to rate tires to one specific rating i guess. Ive rotated mine every 2-3k to keep chopping at bay and they run smooth when properly balanced. But i must say, two of the 4 that i got from discount tire were straight junk! 265/75/16's and one of my tires has 22 ounces on it, the other has 13 ounces. And thats with a brand new hunter hammerhead balancer being used, and a roadforce with a master tech watching just to make sure i wasnt crazy. A good tire with goodyear always seems to be a hit or a miss. Going cooper stt maxx 33's next just torn between 285 and 255

You have to look for extremely tiny text that says load range C, D, or E. For whatever reason Goodyear made it really really small and not stand out.

With my original set of load range C Duratracs when I first got them, I had to change 2 of the 4 tires because of very high road force (+20lbs). One of the replacements had even higher road force (37lbs) and had to be changed again. This was like 4 years ago.

The load range E that I just got has road force of 2lbs with 3 tires and 10lbs with 1 tire and required no weight on the outside and little on the inside. This was such a crapshoot because I expect some tires to be swapped for being out of round.

Comparing the C to E, the C has a softer ride but the stiffer E makes the steering feel more responsive.

Mine were balanced with the Hunter Road Force Elite with the Hammerhead. I still saw some techs not know how to use it and ignored warning messages.

Ive been using that machine for 3 total years now, no pro here but i can balance just about anything up to a 35 and know the tricks too. funny thing is, my tires that take 22 ounces have 2-8 pounds of road force! IIRC the hammerhead when set to truck tire mode not passenger car on the road force balancer setting says 20 pounds on a truck tire is okay! Tell that to the teeth chattering out of my fucking head.

Mine were good until 45000. Then they started cupping badly and noisy AF. Bought a set to replace them because I liked them so much.
