I know I hindered my gas mileage by lifting it so much... but its only on 33’s and didnt think it would be this bad!!
Is everyone else getting 11-12 MPG??!
Anything I can do to boost it??
I drive slower then my grandma so its not that

First step, take the larger tire size into account when calculating mpg. If your new tire diameter is 4% larger, multiply your miles traveled by 1.04. That will give you a more accurate reading.

Secondly, yes 33s will kill mpg. It’s not so much the diameter as it is the weight. I’m guessing they’re load E which are heavy as hell.

With that in mind there’s still stuff you can do to improve mpg. Clean your maf and throttle body and you may gain back a mpg or two.

No no no. "is truck" is not an end all excuse. Even with brand new tires and a steel plate bumper I still ALWAYS get 20+ mpg, generally it is between 20 and 22.5 (22.8 is the highest I've gotten so far).
There is no reason for just about any truck to average less than 15 unless.

    • You floor it all the time.
    • You go 90 mph all the time.
    • You dropped in a V8 and love it like a V8.
    • Something is jacked up.
    • You're flying through dirt trails and using 4x4.

If you're just cruising around the highway you should have no problem getting at least 18 mpg.

That's a bit low. I averaged 15.5 on 33s with stock gearing and I get 14 now with 35s and 4.88 gearing. My wheel/tire combo weighs 101.5lbs each and my truck has the drag coefficient of a brick. My speedo is calibrated, are you calculating your MPGs correcting for tire size?
Are your wheel bearings in good shape? Stuck caliper piston?

Wouldn't one need to recalibrate the speedo to account for the tire size change?

Yeah, that's why I asked him. Or you can crunch the numbers manually...

On a tank? Glad I am never getting 33's lol. The highest I've pulled from a tank was 388, at that point I was getting nervous but after filling up she still had about 3 gallons left.

True... but 11-12 mpg? It cannot be THAT bad. That's like mid 90s crappy F-150 mileage with a v8. Mega awful.

    Side note... pre-runner ftw :p

Shoot, thinking about it now yeah that would mess up the odo since it wouldn't read a mile correctly. OP if you didn't calibrate you need to get on that

I get between 13 and 14 mpgs but I drive 99 percent in the city (get on the highway maybe once a month) and therefore never get over about 45 mph. I'm sure it's all the stop and go city driving that kills my mileage.

I average 14mpgs. And that's when I baby it and don't boost everywhere and punish my SC. I average 12mpgs when I drive with a lead foot. Sooooooooo.... did I mention I drive a truck? Lol

It's not the weight as much as the tread pattern. More aggressive tires have a lot of rolling resistance. The tires don't coast freely and that hurts fuel mileage. Get up to 65 and let off the gas, with aggressive tires it is like you opened a parachute behind the truck. It isn't unusual to have to keep your foot on the gas pedal in order to maintain speeds even on slight downhill stretches. Less aggressive tires will allow you to coast for longer distances. Most of them only come in E rated tires that are heavy. But a heavy E rated tire with a more moderate AT or highway tread will still get very good fuel mileage. An E rated mud tire will cost you 2-3 mpg compared to an E rated AT tire in the same size and weight.

If you're not compensating for the odometer and speedometer being off that is at least 1 more mpg., maybe 2. You're probably actually getting 12-14 mpg and with a less aggressive tire, even at 33", 14-16 is reasonable. The lift affects aerodynamics and may be costing you 1 mpg on the hwy, probably nothing in city driving.

My truck is basically stock, but I do have heavy E rated tires one size larger than stock (LT275/75/16) and I normally get 16-17 for everyday driving and about 20 hwy.
