Buyer’s remorse...of course

After weeks of research on a new Taco, including some coaching from members here, I decided to get er done today. Had pretty well made up my mind: OR DCSB, cement color. The approach was to trade my son’s ‘10 SR5 (one I’d given him five years ago) for my new vehicle and he in turn inherits my ‘15 SR5. The three “generations” are pictured below.

I came away with everything I thought I wanted, except the color. Long story on that, but basically the cement wasn’t available on this lot, and I wanted to do the dang deal today.

The experience was mostly pleasant, even though it was a busy day at a large dealership. But, after a 20-minute drive home, the air kind of went out of the balloon, well sort of.... Some impressions:

    * Didn’t get quite as much as I’d hoped on the trade-in, and I would have liked a little more off the MRSP. I just don’t have the temperament to haggle, I guess.

    * From the test drive, the OR was preferable vs. the Sport. Looking over the scoop was interesting, but didn’t seem all that appealing for the long run. The ride home in the new OR was pretty dang smooth. Good decision for me.

    * I rejected the higher-end package available because the moonroof that comes with it reduces head room, something important to me. Feel good about that, though I would have liked the blind-spot monitoring feature.

    * The interior color, black, is probably a mistake. And the materials in general don’t seem to be quite as high of quality as my past Tacos. Are they?

    * I already miss the ease of using the AC storage. Use of the backseats are going to require a learning curve. I guess I will be glad I did it when the grandkids have a little more space to ride along with me.

    * I miss the long bed. Heck, I don’t think I can even fit a fishing pole back there, or a couple bikes without a bit of engineering.

    * Guess I’ll leave the TRD stickers on for now, even though I’m a bit embarrassed to be driving an off-road vehicle mostly on suburban highways and byways. (Can’t wait, though, until I get out into the back country and some rough roads.)

Well, maybe things will look different in the morning, but right now I kind of wish I could rewind the day and do things a little differently. Oh, and by the way, son Nate at least is a mighty happy man this evening.

Thanks again, all, for the earlier input on things....

Had a bit of buyers remorse when I bought my first tacoma, but mostly because I’d never spent that much money before... I really grew to love it. I’m on my second one now... hopefully your BR wears off. I can tell you this, It’s a sharp looking truck! Congrats.

I left super excited. Woke up early the next day just to go look at it in the garage. That sucks you're having remorse. I couldn't imagine spending that much money and 2nd guessing.

Silver looks good on these trucks. You made a great choice, try not to dwell on what could have been and just work on enjoying what's in your driveway. BTW, the TRD stickers are extremely easy to remove

Why would you be unhappy? You should’ve fought harder on the deal if you expected more from the dealership. You got a badass truck in a great color so enjoy it man!!!

Bright side?...back seats fold down flat. Kinda like a large access cab for storage :)

I wanted Cement just like you and walked away with Silver also. I’m glad I went with Silver now, I see a ton of Cement Tacoma’s where I live. I love the color now and wouldn’t want anything else. Well maybe Calvary Blue because I’m a Charger fan. Just think you kind of went back to your roots with the third truck.A33830CB-7F7A-4BBC-9314-785DB31AF0DF.jpg

Thanks for the positive reinforcement! I recall how there were a few things about my previous two Tacos that bugged me for a while, but I came to love both of them. It’s all good. And, of course, I should just be grateful to be able to do this for my son and me.

The bed length is only 1' difference. I was worried about it when I bought a 4 door due to growing family coming from an access cab. In the 3 years of owning the truck there hasn't been anything I can't haul in the 5' bed that the extra 1' would make a difference. Some items just require having the tailgate down and using straps. Not a big deal. 4 door also offers more back seat space than the AC cab. You can fold the seats down if needed, or use the behind the seat storage.

Dont regret it- I got a black interior and now like it since it reduces interior glare on the inside windows. It doesnt heat up in sun either since the OEM window tint is so good.

The DCSB is awesome- I made a extending sleeping platform in the back so we have a 6.5’ long double bed back there when camping with just the shell.

The OR is great - you really have to go on a trip with it that involves some off roading to see what I mean.

Its a great truck, you will see.

Exactly. I didn't wheel and deal as much for my 2018 because i didn't want to spend weeks saving a couple grand. Sometimes it's not worth it. Gotta be happy leaving the dealership or why get a new truck?! No point

Be glad you didn't get the stupid primer color. Looks like they forgot to paint it. Silver is timeless. People are gonna get over this primer hype, believe me

Have you checked out the rear storage compartments, both behind the rear seat backs and also under both seat bottoms? I use them all the time and find them quite useful.

Think I’m going to be okay with the silver. It’s slightly darker than my ‘10 SR5, a little blue mixed in maybe. I still think the cement is cool, but expect the silver will wear well. Noticed that the ‘18 Tacoma brochures feature cement, probably contributing to its scarcity. Really dig your photo by the way!

Yep, I’m fussing around with them as we speak. They’re just not as easy to get to, as the AC compartments, it seems. It’s a first world problem for sure. Thanks for the input.
