I would try adding BG LSII. It is a great product and would probably help. Also a cheap fix for about $20.00

You usually cannot find it on the shelves of most auto part stores. I know Napa has it.

In my opinion royal purple is the best gear oil out there.

 

So I have not yet been able to separate myself from this thread yet but can you damage the lsd by adding too much of the friction modifier? Is there such thing as "to much of a good thing"? I did not have a chance to swap mine out today but did check it last night and the current fluid looks new from just checking it through the fill plug with my finger. Last question does anyone know how much a new fill plug is?
The head on mine is starting to round off a little and I might as well replace it before it strips.

Okay so it seems like we are all in test mode right now for the stuff we put it. Like I said, I will be driving a couple hundred miles this weekend so I'll let you guys know. Hey chris, when does it chatter? Driving straight, on turns, or always?

Nice I will be doing swap this weekend. Delvac (non-lsd, extended life) + GM factory additive. I searched bunch of forums and this setup had worked for everybody from Porsche guys, Corvettes, Camaros, BMW's to GM cars. We will see how that plays out for us but all others seem to had new style ceramic friction clutchpacks so maybe thats the trick its correct additive that is designed for those clutch packs and Synthethic oil with out other LSD additive.

 

After checking this post, i went and check for the LSD sticker. It appears that either the previous owner bought an undercoating package or painted the entire frame, differentials, etc. So there is no sticker for me to find. My question is can I contact Toyota and get the original buildsheet for my truck to determine if it has the LSD or if it has an open differential. Sorry OP to jack this thread but I need to do a fluid change in the next few months and don't want to jack this up.

 

they might be able to, but there are a couple other ways too if they can't.

you could also do a burnout and see if you leave one or two black marks. Two=LSD One=Open

Chock the front tires. Jack up the rear of the vehicle with the tires off the ground. Put tranny in neutral. Rotate one of the rear tires forward. Watch what the other rear tire does. If it: Spins forward=LSD Spins backwards=Open

 

Stopped by the local dealer this morning to pick up some of the long-life coolant. Asked the guy at the parts counter what kind of gear oil they use for the limited slips. He said they use regular 75w with additive (they buy it by the barrel). I asked about synthetic and he said you could use it, but you'd still need the additive.

I guess it just follows suit with what others have been told.

 

That's what I did under recommendation from a mechanic friend of mine-I filled it and forgot about it.
I have a fiberglass topper on my toyota and have been helping a friend move over the last few weeks. With the weight of the topper as well as the stuff in the box when moving I estimate at times I was hauling about 650-700 lbs at different times over the last 30 days. No noise or problems encountered. For what its worth.....!

Ok I have 100 miles since the change to Delvac and GM additive in my LSD. So far its definetely very good and better then I though it would be. I still think there is faint chatter on hard acceleration during the sharp turn, but I can not hear anything just the feel (almost like stock radio bass playing). Then again I am expecting chatter so maybe my @$$ is just feeling something. I may add 1 oz of GM additive to take care even that but it looks like solutions is working. if that's it I am keeping Delvac in it
