I was washing the truck today and noticed there were small rust spots on the chrome bumper. I dont know about anyone else but I was told by the dealer that I should not have any issues with rust that Toyota had surpassed that and had a no rust guarantee. Anyone else have this issue, any suggestions?

I will have to go to a different dealer now... the one I bought the truck from doesnt like me anymore. I gave them a piece of my mind when my truck was hit last time and they said it was already there.

I live in Colorado and get tiny rust spots all over my truck every winter.

The spots I have are from Magnesium Chloride (mag chloride). They use it to De-Ice the streets. It sticks to your vehicle and turns to rust - they are very small about the size of small needle point.

I don't know if you are getting the same thing but it tends to be worse on metal parts like chrome, aluminum wheels. I also get a fair amount that sticks to my paint

Each year I have to clay bar and polish my truck to remove it.

Sheeeeeeeeeeeit. My rear bumper has been rusting for years. A Colorado resident also and the mag chloride (which they claim doesn't rust vehicles) is just as bad as road salt of the NaCl variety.

In fact, the black plastic trim piece finally fell off half of my rear bumper recently (too many times has my wife backed into "something") and the top of the chrome which lived under that plastic pieces looks like it's 50 years old and sitting in a field its whole life.

Damn that sucks, I have the same thing, but only the inside and not outside.

I spray WD-40 onto it, to try to prevent more rust from happening. But always have to spray after it rains or after I wash my truck.
For the outside have you tried using some chrome polish?
Other than that you could try painting the inside or taking off the whole bumper and having it re-chromed.

    It kind of does.

What it means is a lot easier a convincing to wife for a real bumper eventually. Not to mention it's taken such a beating from her backing up ("I can't see through the g*dd*man topper!" retort: "then using the friggen mirrors!") that she will no doubt understand the need for a bumper that hasn't lost its shape/integrity.

Its a 2 year old truck. There should be no lack of confidence when going into the dealership. You are there simply to show them, so they can order a new one, and to find out when you will be coming in for them to replace the defective product.

I can't understand why some people pussyfoot around this stuff. This is clearly on them and you approach it as such.

Sounds good. But this dealership is like the worst in the nation. I swear. They told me that I dont need the rear TSB. I told them that I wanted it and that I was bottoming out with a heavy load. The guy told me "No you didnt." I was appalled. I wrote him a bad review and now when my truck got hit in the lot when they were fixing the blower motor, he said that it was already there. It was in a spot that had been hit before but you could clearly see that they were at two different depths and that there was still the clear plastic like film on it that had peeled off and was still flapping in the wind.

I will try but they will just get the body shop to buff it out or something, then it will look like crap because the body shop there sucks.

C'mon dude, there is a pretty big difference between demonstrating the rear spring TBS to a dealers 'satisfaction' when compared to showing obvious rust on a 2 year old bumper. Apples and oranges.

Don't mean to be harsh, but you're trying a little too hard to be clueless. Your choice on whether you want to be a victim on an OBVIOUS defect as opposed to a subjective one many here (and few places outside of) make you feel you are entitled to, whether you need it or not.

I see where your getting at. I am going to call a different dealership in the area and see if they will do anything. If not I will go back to the one I bought it from.

I have a 2008 Tacoma. The dealer has replaced a rusting bumper once and now this one is rusting as well. I'm going in for service next week. We'll see what they say at that time.

I had my bumper replaced just last month on my 09. I was in for a oil change and showed them the bumper. They told me they would get back with me.With in two weeks it was replaced. They said Toy was having a problem with their plating.
