Cincinnati Area Thread (Tri-State, Ohio/Kentucky/Indiana)

They don't seem so small when you're in 'em. Plenty to keep you busy and on the trail for a day. Watch video's of these places....Hilly as anywhere. Indiana is not all flat as a pool table. Not certain you could pass admissions test to get in Indiana anyway! (Requires teeth and a family tree that doesn't resemble a telephone pole)

 

Only moderately cool thing/place in IN is Indy, and it even had its moments. I worked in the "midwest" for too long on the road, it's a shithole.

 

Nahhh. Plenty to see in Indiana. Love me some Amish Country up north....Indiana Dunes State Park is awesome. West and Southwest Indiana is mighty cool (Terre Haute area and south especially) Bedford, around the limestone quarries is awesome. Indy OK, but I'm not drawn to big city lights. Moab Offroad does much of it's "Week'O"Wheelin'" in Indiana every year. Wide variety of terrain, not just rocks and creek beds. They actually have REAL mud in places. Also lots of sand up north.

 

I worked a week or 2 in Terre Haute, but that's about it. Had a POP site there.

 

I went to Rose Hulman for 2 years to finish my mechanical engineering degree. It's in Terre Haute. Home of comedian Red Skelton. It's a cool place once you learn your way around.

Did my Industrial Engineering course work at Purdue (West Lafayette In) There's probably still smoke billowing in the air.....

 

How did you end up running a golf course? Just curious...

 

I was a supervisor/"project engineer" for a construction company that did a major remodeling here in the late '80's, as well as my dads business partner was a member here. Got to know several of the board members and such while all that was going on. One day at a construction progress meeting, 3 of the board members invited me to play a round of golf with them. (I was a 4 handicapper back then) I was just about fed up with the construction industry at the same moment they offered me a job. They needed someone with my background and I needed a change of pace. My plan was to stay here a year or 2 and then get into something where I could use my degrees a little better..and go back to school to get my architect license like I originally set out to do. They started throwing more and more money at me until I agreed to stay. 29 years later, I'm still here. Plan is to cross the finish line sooner than later while still here.

 

Finally got myself a “bro” grill. Now to find time to debadge the truck & be rid of the chrome!

About 90% chance I'll be doing Hi-Lift Jack customer appreciation day at Redbird. About the same odds of a trip to Interlake this summer or fall. Let's try to meet up for one or the other.

I'm good for one trip to Badlands a year and already made that. It reminds me of the Yogi Berra quote. "Nobody goes there any more....It's too crowded".

 

I lost my Badlands license plate in a big puddle that sent water over my hood.

 

There are too many people at Badlands,,, and after about 3 hrs we’re just repeating stuff we’ve already done.

 

Sounds good. I also am going to try to get to Blue Holler this year.

I’d like to go up to the dunes, but I’m worried about the damage that sand can do.

 

I’ve got to go to Casey’s in Linton tomorrow to settle up with them cause my card broke and they let me and my son keep our sandwiches.
