Are they drums or pads? I am assuming drums off of age.

I still have to rebuild the rear axle on that Jeep my buddy has with the screaming drum brakes. But he's on a two week cruise in the Bahamas. Oh well, C'est la vie...

There's lots of shops like that around here what with Desert Rat and SDHQ being within 5 mi of me and countless others in the PHX area. I live near performance car Mecca too so good places to get work done that I don't have tooling for. If it made more money I would absolutely love to make custom exhausts for people. Invest in a nice mandrel bender and make downpipes, turbo back kits. I like working with tubing and piping, and changing components to alter flow characteristics and sound is neat to me.

They aren't mandrel bends or anything special but I still think the guys at Scottsdale muffler did a fantastic job mounting and routing my exhaust.

That looks great, how much did it run you?

They re-did you whole exhaust system, I am guessing?

I think that was what got me - the time factor and oh yeah, I don't have a press or that axle tool or...

I'm starting to wonder if the driver side isn't an issue (or will become an issue) as well. Should they be doing both sides? From what I gathered from the service advisor, tech had said driver side was fine.

If you're going to do one, might as well do the other.

While I had the transmission off, I did the rear main seal. It was pristine, no issue at all. But it was right there in front of me, so there wasn't any reason not to replace it considering how much work had to be done to replace it again in the future.

Same goes my my diff axles seals. They were both fine, but they are cheap enough so I replaced them anyway.

Why the hell not that's a massive garage. You can get one used for about $1k.

Get a quote from lots of different shops. Go off Yelp and Google reviews too.

I called about 10 different transmission shops when I was stranded in a parking lot before I called a tow truck. I chose one on the more expensive side because they were patient and had a good reputation. The way that service advisor was so patient and understanding on the phone with me was the main reason I chose the shop I did, even though it was $300 more than the cheapest bid. Hell the owner stayed half and hour after they closed - mind you ON A FRIDAY - to wait for the tow truck to arrive so my truck would be safe in their locked yard.

oh I should put this out there - for those of us in the Bay Area, Piercey Toyota in Milpitas is very close to Camelback in pricing on parts. If its something you need right away, might want to check with them. As much as I support Gunny and Camelback, Piercey might be a good alternative for us locals for those 'NEED IT TODAY' parts

Yup they did everything from the manifold downpipes to the tailpipe. I brought them the high flow cats and muffler. $340 cash and it was all welded, painted, mounted (replaced all stock mounts as most had rotted off from heat cycling) in less than 3hrs. And they explained to me how they were going to route it all before hand. There are two places where the stock pipe is flattened a bit to clear certain cross members and body parts. But that's done for ease of installation not for actual clearances once installed so they didn't have to crush any pipes when they remade it all. The Toyota TCCS computer system my cruiser comes with is very reliant on upstream O2 readings for everything once it is up to temp, like way more so than our Tacomas, theyre pre obdii so they don't have much problem solving logic and so if something about the O2 readings is out of spec for any reason other than it actaully being rich or lean it doesn't have any way to tell that data is false. So with poor exhaust flow over them it was starting to idle rougher because O2 readings were slow, you should have seen how goofy it ran when my O2 actually went out. Now that everything flows well again it is smooth as glass. Pre OBDII EFI is pretty funny, can run just as well as post OBDII systems but without that problem solving logic can also present some weird symptoms.
