You can put a turbo after the cat? Wut

That has just shattered all my relatively low knowledge of how turbos work. My understanding is turbos utilize exhaust gas to spin a turbine and pressurize intake air.

I'm a computer/electronics guy by trade. I knew how to start a car, and add oil to our E320 that leaks more oil than Deepwater Horizon. And that was about it until I came on here.

That knowledge is correct, doesn't mean there isn't still enough velocity to spin a turbo. There's less but certainly enough. STS (now dead and gone) did this and it worked well enough, it has it's limit but should still easily surpass the SC system I have with a little work.

How much gains are we looking at for the SC versus a turbo setup of equal value?

I might go SC just because I can get it legal here.

A small turbo after the cat for low rpm power and a big one before the cat for high rpm power would be a cool way for a twin turbo setup

That would be really hard to estimate. I can go pick up a turbo for less than $50 that will ultimately let me make more power than my SC. But the hard part comes with plumbing oil feeds and returns, coolant feeds and returns (if it is a nice turbo), intercooler placement and plumbing and then turbo back exhaust plumbing. It's all very pick and mix, leaves a lot to what you can scrounge and make yourself and where your creativity ends. I could be tempted to sell my SC tho...

Pointless though, if youre allowed to have one before the cat then both should be for a sequential or twin setup that makes any sense.

Hey if you ever end up selling it let me know. At the end of the day it's a truck and it was never meant to go fast, whatever gains that I get from a SC should be decent enough.

If I wanted a fast car, I would have DD'd the E320 instead. It's not even that fast, but it's a world away from the Tacoma.

Yeah ik. But not all engine bays are big enough for 2 turbos

If it doesn't behave how I want it to after the meth install I'll sell it all to you for $1450. Because at that point I'll need a standalone ECU and if I'm gonna do that I'm gonna make more than 225HP haha. Little turbski would be what I'd be going for next.

Nothing has to go after a cat though, compound systems can package super tight because there doesn't have to be much tubing in between them.

I'm down, let me know. How much HP gain did you notice from stock?

That's what I would've done if it didn't have so many miles. I wouldn't put an engine with almost 500,000 miles into my truck with 96,000 miles.

How cool would this be right under the passenger airbag, above the glovebox? It's an old Land Cruiser Inclinometer.
