Well along those same lines without incentives and substities there would be no wind power or solar, no fucking way... it’s a complete loser compared to other methods of production in $/ MWE

That said (I can’t believe I’m going to say this) sometimes government intervention can be good.... without it in this case, technology wouldn’t ever move forward in solar or wind (though Elon Musk has proven the free market can go where the g’vmt wont anymore) so who knows.

All i can say is it’s gonna be a wild ride, I graduated high school 20 years ago and technology completely changed the world in that time, not sure what the next 20 years will bring as no one really could have predicted how far we’ve already come, but I’m looking forward to seeing it.

Regardless for me to get into this much further would stray into politics, which would definitely get me banned lol.

Getting back on topic, I most likely wouldn't buy a diesel taco given current emmisions standards, too much upfront cost, complexity and running costs for what would be a small benefit for my use.

The thread started out like a gas engine very fast and then it kind of went like a diesel and chugged a long for awhile now it’s more like a hybrid kind of electrified. Lol

I’m fairly certain that was the point of his anecdote. Sales people are generally clueless. And SUBARU has had Boxer (horizontally opposed heads) for a very long time. My mom had a 96 Legacy Sedan with a 4 cyl Boxer Engine

Well, that's what I first thought, but the Porsche comment threw me off a bit. I remember Perrin put a 3.0 Forester motor in their STi build. Shhwinnnnnnnnnnnnnng.

They're pitching it for short haul ie port to trains, intra-city etc.

FYI I didn't dig through 11pages of BS but you guys do know they solved the diesel emissions problem right? Like solved it enough that they can clean up most diesels existing on the road, and clean up existing Toyota diesels without impacting their reliability. Techs coming to market in 18-24 months.

    https://www.google.ca/amp/s/phys.org/news/2017-05-world-first-technology-diesel-emissions.amp

That might be why Toyota is finally considering it. Previous to now they required so much r&d to make diesel engines meet emissions in NA that it was hardly worth the $. Now it just might be....

Also on terms of Electric Toyota's, Toyota has invested heavily in hydrogen hybrid vehicles, even going so far as to develop hydrogen refuelling and transport infrastructure in Japan, and they're trying to expand it worldwide. So I don't find it likely we'll see an electric Tacoma anytime soon. They are pretty heavily invesfed in hydrogen. They experimented with electric Rav4s in California due to vehicle regs but they're kind of shit....

Only time I think edgy was when they made the Supra and it had an I6 with a turbo while other cars in that category were V6 and V8 options, then they pulled the plug

Nope they said Boxster, this was after I told them I had a WRX, which did have a boxer motor.

The worst part is I've heard others repeat the same misinformation.

Why would a Japanese manufacturer, of a front engine vehicle put a German made mid mount engine in it?

I sort of miss my '12 STi, but I enjoy the smoother ride in my Tacoma. It was fun to drive fast, but the body couldn't take the roughness anymore.
