Sadly, I have been overruled in my house. My bride actually likes the cheese grater and she's panicked about tinkering with the TSS, so we're keeping the Sport's original grille, but I insisted that I will be painting the chrome trim around the grille to which she rolled her eyes and said "You just have to tinker with it somehow, don't you?" I simply answered "No, but I want to." Time to unsub... Good luck folks!

I had this thought too, but mine failed using the license plate bracket plastic, which many people have been successful with.

Mine also failed with no garnish at all. Using oem garnish is the only thing that worked.

The oem garnish is much thicker than that the license plate bracket plastic, as a side point

Good to know, thank you. I have also noticed the stock Toyota logo that it used to be behind feels pretty solid as well. If others are having no issues with the license plate plastic, could it maybe be the distance from the plastic? I know I've read that in this thread but haven't seen any numbers yet.

I don't and there wasn't one but with all the ideas on this thread, it just lead me to do what i did. Got plexiglass from lowes, they sell sheets (8x10), cut only to cover the holes (size 3.25x3"). Once i knew the size i wanted, just made a cut line and kept running a blade (standard box cutter) multiple times, found a solid edge of a table and then snapped off the piece. Since there was an existing mount point for the factor garish, i figure i just put a hole at the bottom, then zip tie and done. Test drove it this morning. No errors or lights, both early braking and active cruise controls as normal.

That and you saved me how many days of just reading through all these posts. I think I only made it about 5 pages back til my gf finally realized I was still on the same god damn post and we were never gonna leave to go to dinner. :crapstorm::jerkoff:

I was getting the error message at random intervals. I reset the sensitivity from the farthest setting to the closest and haven't had a message in 4 days and a few hundred miles. No garnish.

From looking at the pictures of the OEM garnish and pictures of the grill, i think the sensor warning is likely due to the raised triangular/rectangular plastic pattern vs the garnishes flat surface. i assume the uneven surface is attenuating the signal?

Maybe. I have an update as well on mine.

Using the same piece of plastic as last time, I was comparing the Sport grill to the new one and noticed that there is much more space between the plastic T logo on the Sport grill than there is on my new TRD non OEM grill. I went ahead and pulled the sensor, and added some nylon spacers to the mount screws. I made it 10 miles down the road before I got an error (as opposed to down the street) and it flicked off again a few miles later, and then back on a few miles after that. I think it's safe to say that distance is making a difference in my case.

As for the errors I'm getting now, I noticed my plastic license plate piece is a little wiggly in there. It seems as though the people who have had no problems were using silicone or some sort of permanent bond to keep their plates from moving. Guess what I'm doing tomorrow? Will report back.

I have the OEM grille and garnish. No issues. I assume it’s glass so the radar works as advertised.

I have it, doesn't look like actual glass. My guess is polycarbonate or something like that. It has to withstand the force of being out front from daily use.

He might be right. Actual glass might not have been a great choice; its pretty thin so I would assume the smallest rock a highway speeds would run the risk of cracking it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
