5F483DBD-1211-4237-AD29-86CDF6D8D1DA.jpg ok, so I just got this truck from my father when he passed away. I just changed the oil and filter and checking all the other fluids. There’s no no transmission dip stick. None of the YouTube videos show my engine. Can someone please help me? I feel like an idiot, but I’ve never had a vehicle without a transmission dip stick.

Your truck doesn't have a transmission dip stick. It's supposed to be a sealed unit.

Most modern vehicles no longer have dip sticks, the Tacoma requires a transmission temp monitor and you to open a spill check plug on the pan (5mm hex allen)

If its not leaking its probably fine.

It’s just had a little bit of a rough shift lately so I just figured I’d check the level. But if it’s sealed and the level doesn’t go down from leaking or burning, it should be fine. It’s a little worse with the ac on.

To check the level, you are supposed to get the transmission to operating temperature and remove the drain plug with the engine running. You should see a slow drip of oil if its full. You should probably change the trans oil every 50k miles or so. Old oil breaks down and the viscosity changes. You transmission might shift smoother if you change it, just make sure you fill it to the right amount or you can damage the transmission.

Remove the drain plug?? Guessing you were referring to the level indicator plug, the one w/ the small hex bit.

I'd have to look under there again, I changed my transmission fluid about a year ago, but you're probably right about the other plug. I just remember it was a plug on the bottom of the transmission and if the engine is off it will drain your fluid.
