I have a 2009 trd off-road with 116000 miles In pretty good shape. I have a friend who said he’d trade me his 2017 4x4 Tacoma with 33000 if I add 15 grand that sound like a good deal to y’all?

You didn't give alot of info to go off. It really depends on condition, mods etc... But I cant see how that would be a bad deal at all.

Need more info, but doesn’t sound like you’d be losing. For reference, I got 17k for my 2012 base with almost 140k on the clock last year and that was trade in.

Here’s a question, are you going to “upgrade” that suspension? Or anything else for that matter? The extra 15k can turn into 20 real quick. I’m not saying that’s a negative, just something to think about.

Whose idea, yours or his? Why would he want to give up a ‘17 for an ‘09 with 116k miles! What is the jelly blue book private party value of each value? What unsolved issues with the ‘17 is he having (hint, hint)

Given the information provided sounds like a good deal. I guess the question you need to ask yourself is...Would my friend try to fuck me?

It’s his idea and nothing is wrong with his truck. He welds and just bought a rig truck so he drives that 90% of the time and had just said he don’t need his new Tacoma just sitting there all the time.

So he’d rather have a 2009 sitting there all the time?

I wouldn’t do it just because of the potential bad blood if something major goes wrong with your truck or his. It’s not a great deal - if you traded in your truck you would expect to get into his truck sitting on a used car lot for about that, maybe a little more. Not a deal worth torching a friendship over.

Look like you're new to this forum. Welcome.
Forget about numbers and ask yorself this: Why do you want his truck?
Have you ever driven it, or any 3rd gen for that matter?
Have you read up on the many issuses and opinions on difference between the 2nd gen and 3rd gen?
Some people love the 3rd gen, others wish they had never "traded up" from their 2nd gen.
    Think about it.

I guess I can see his reasoning to having a paid off beater truck around if he has another work/daily/whatever. I'm not sure your 2009 is old and cheap enough to really be a beater yet but I guess there's no loan.

If it was me in this situation I would suggest he sell the 2017 and buy his own older truck. You're doing him the favor, there's not much in it for you unless you were already thinking of buying a newer used truck. Even assuming it's all above board he's getting a cheaper truck with a known history rather than dealing with finding one out there, which isn't a small benefit.

What warranty package did he get with it? If your covered to 100k miles any problems should get looked after. 15 grand for an almost new truck sounds good.

Put both the money factors and the friendship aside for a few minutes, park the trucks next to each other and imagine you are at a car lot looking at trucks. Which one would you be drawn to and most likely to talk to a salesman about?

Alternatively, you could use logic and reason rather than feelings and sales pitches.
