Lift for my Taco?

Hi all,

I'm a noob to the whole lifting of your truck and everything that goes along with it. I would like to do a modest lift that would let me put a bit bigger tires on the truck and make it look a little more aggressive but not dramatically affect gas mileage and vehicle handling. 90% of my driving is in the city so I do not want anything dramatic. I am curious about the approximate cost to get this done at a shop. I have heard of toytec and revtek lifts, is there a best option out there? Can I keep my stock trd rims and put bigger tires on them? Does anyone know of a good place to get the work done in the Vancouver, BC area?

But 5100s with 33s seems to be a popular/efficient lift, I like it.

You will need wheel spacers to run anything over 265's on your stock rims. All of these answers and more can be found with a simple search.

Do you have a distributor/dealer in Vancouver, BC, Canada region? Also, what kind of install time would be reasonable for a shop to install the ultimate kit? (I think I have the TSB rear leafs). Thanks!

Install time should be 4-6 hours.

 

Just so you know, the lift that Darrick suggested is pretty Top of the Line as far as 3 inch lifts go. There are way less expensive options that Toytec offers if you want to sacrifice a little quality and adjustability.

Not trying to step on anyone's toes, just noting that you said in your original post that you wanted a modest lift and nothing drastic. Fully adjustable coilovers and four new shocks does not fit in that category.

 

Get a set of Bilstein 5100 adjustable struts for the front, reuse stock coils and throw an add a leaf in the rear. Total investment including alignment, less then 500 dollars with good ride quality and all the components are straight bolt on that you can do yourself. You'll end up with a little less then a 3 inch lift. Just my two cents...

 

Do i need a diff drop kit or anything else? Also, should I get an AAL that is set up to work with the 4 leaf TSB style (canadian truck)? I heard that there was a toytec one that is made for tacos with the rear TSB?

 

That depends. Are you are 4x4? Your profile doesn't say.

If you already have the 4 leaf pack, then definately get the AAL designed for trucks with the TSB.

My truck is a 4x4 so do i need to do anything with the diff? I was looking at your build and was wondering if I could get away with just adding the 5100s in the front set to 1.75 for now and do the rest later. Would this even out the truck with the rear 4 leaf pack. I measured and at the wheel wells, the back is sitting about 2" higher at the moment.

I could then adjust the 5100s in the front to 2.5", do the AAL in the back and/or replace the rear shocks with 5100s when i am looking at getting new tires?

 

The 5100 adjustable shocks are available from any number of online retailers, a lot of folks use down south motors who is a vendor here on the forums. The AAL I used, I got from ToyTec, which is also a vendor here. Just be prepared to wait a bit for the front shocks they seem to be backordered pretty often. Hope this helps.

 

Hey Reaper10, did you put in a diff spacer in the front to go with the bilsteins?

 

Nope, no diff drop or anything, just the bilsteins. My alignment is still within spec but the truck does feel a little floaty at highway speeds so my next addition is going to be a set of Light Racing upper control arms. From everything I've read here and elsewhere the upper control arms should take care of it. I think the need for after market upper control arms varies greatly from truck to truck with any lift less then 3 inches. Some people like me feel the need for them but many others do not.

 

We recommend the use of the diff drop once you reach over ~2 inches of lift.

Yes you should get the TSB AAL because our standard AAL won't fit the pack.

Yes, if you have the stock leaf pack from Toyota, the TSB AAL will return you 1.5" of rear lift.
