Why doesn't anyone own an SR5?

Sport and OR are the same price point

There's about a 2-3k difference between the TRD twins and the SR5

 

Another way of looking at this is if you are planning on keeping your truck for a very long time, the added tech and mechanicals for the TRD's are just additional things that will wear out and break eventually.

If you need them or really enjoy having them great, but my sense is alot of people get these features thinking "why not for only a few grand more", and never really need them.

The SR5 4x4 is a nice ride with plenty of tech, but slightly less things that might need repair/ replacement in 10-15 years.

These are all nice solid trucks though.

I went TRD OR this time because the price difference wasn't enough to go SR5 for me. If I remember right the SR5s they had on the lot that I liked were only about a grand less then my TRD. Besides I really liked the bigger touch screen, the power rear window and the leather trim. Wasn't sure about the push button start at first but now, I love it. Just grab the door handle and it unlocks.....get in push the button and go. Happy Camper.

 

Dude if I could go back believe me this would of been my route. The first day I bought my OR I wanted out of the sound system, suspension, and wheels. Love what you did with yours. Also would of saved at least 10-12k depending on dealership negotiations.

 

I own an SR5. Got it a few months ago. It was a killer deal.

My reasoning was basically this:

1. Even if I bought an OR or Pro the suspension would be getting essentially the same upgrade (Fox's with reservoirs and Dakars) anyway;

2. Even if I bought the OR or Pro the tires would be changed out;

3. The rear diff locker is a nice feature on the OR and Pro. So just add one to the SR5.

The only thing that really I could see being potentially a deal breaker for folks would be the lack of a manual transmission. But I don't really care about that.

My main parameters were that I wanted V6 4X4 and I would build up from there. Looked at that from that standpoint the only real selling point of Pro or OR would be the diff locker. Everything else they offer beyond that over the SR5 would have just been something I was paying for but didn't want for my purposes.

Just my 2c.

 

Stranded how? Obviously trannies go out on sticks with clutches to boot. How does a standard make it more practical or useful over a auto.

 

SR5s and manuals are for poor people.

Brought mine in for service a separate time and one of the sales guys told me he bought a 2017 Tacoma in Cement. I told him he must have the Pro then. His response: “I’m not sure. It might be”

 

Kept the stickers haha, replaced all of the suspension, skid plates, wheels/tires +spare, grill and probably a couple other things. I’ll be in Moab in September want to go wheeling?

 

I get a hoot out of the Bros who buy 4 door "trucks" but need a manual transmission for overland rock crawling.

 

Cool story. Maybe some of these bros have families and enjoy driving a manual

 

SR5 is a fine truck, I was going to go regular ol' SR 4x4 but I got a sweet end of year deal on a OR.

 

I am one of those poor people. I got a quality truck for 28k and hardly any payment to hopefully last fifteen twenty years like my previous SR5. Guess I can take that extra money and pay for other fun stuff I like.
