What I did was just remove the rack prior to having the habitat installed, that way I could measure / account for frame flex in my garage instead of guessing.

Having a light bar installed I’d rather cut it while in the parking lot than uninstall it all.

I have a lightbar as well, it just unplugs at the base of the windshield, than jut unbolt the rack and lift off... going to be hard to guess where to cut without seeing the habitat mounted and measuring from there, the chances of you getting it right vs cutting more or less than necessary is pretty slim imo.

It almost seams easier in my case where I'm installing the rack after getting the habitat, so I don't have to deal with the rear mounting points at all, I just cut the rack past the the middle mounts. You could do the same but you would want to seal up the rear mounting holes.

I am currently in the process, using 8020 extruded aluminum. I am getting a super lean to the drivers side, so I have put the project in hold until my water tank and fridge get installed. The roof rack will eventually support a Eezi-Awn Manta 270 awning.

Anyone managed to get their truck/habitat into a standard garage? I am currently in the process of moving to a new house so I haven’t put the time in to workout clearances. I think I am going to end up buying small tires to swap out as the truck really isn’t a daily driver any more. I was 1.70” short for proper clearance and that might have been too tight.

No roof rack, my Alu-Box’s need to be removed as well as they are even higher.

not sure what a standard garage height is but mine fits with about and inch to spare. I have air bags on the ass end so I air down to about 8psi, fits like a glove, ask OJ.

    Wait, so it doesn't fit?

Standard doors are 7 or 8'. 8' nonproblem. I am right at my 7' door with no gear loaded. To get it in, I just air down a bit then reenflate since the door header is the limiting factor.

I dumped both airbags and tire air, I think my old garage was either a 7’ or my driveway angle was too steep....or both. I’ll have to measure my total truck height and see where I am sitting.

But you said it fits like
So like the glove, if it don't fit you must park in the driveway.

Great write up! Trying to figure out what we want to do. CAMPER or habitat. I like the sleekness and I’m sure it’s much lighter than a camper. What’s it like on the inside of your rent?

So what does it look like on the inside of your truck? How light/heavy is it?

Hopefully others will chime in, my input is that if you are considering a (tow behind) camper than a habitat probably isn't the best choice for you... The entire reason I went with a habitat was so I did not have to tow a trailer anymore, and could get places even my very capable high clearance tent trailer couldnt go.

If you are considering going with a 4wheel camper or some other pop up type camper vs habitat, than it will really come down to how much weight you're comfortable with on your bed while camping, as well as if you like using your truck bed for more "regular" utilities.

Giving some more details on what your plans are with your truck / camp setup would help people to give some better opinions if you want them.

Are you asking what the interior of my cab looks like? Or the interior of the bed area?

IIRC the habitat added something like 340lbs, I have it loaded with another 4-8gallons of fuel, ~8 gallons of water, camp chairs, tools, other misc stuff depending on the trip, I have never weighed it while fully loaded.

The wife and I had a good time at the NW overland rally over the weekend. Picked up up a 100watt flexopower solar kit, looking forward to getting that wired in. I think that'll really set my mind at ease on power needs.

Here's my spot at the rally. Can't wait to upgrade to an ARB awning and deluxe room. Hopefully coming soon.IMG_20180629_071001_380.jpg

I saw a handful of habitats, and just about everything else you could think of. I heard around 1700 attendees this year.0629181119a.jpg

Quick proof of concept to make sure an awning mounted to Habitat lid wouldn't hit the gas strut. Worked great, plenty of clearance.
