I didn't notice this during my test drive, but have noticed it regularly since. Just over 1k miles now.

I'm not thinking this is a "howl", so not the diff /leaf vibration dampening bit, but I could be wrong. When I think of a howl, I think of having some tone, such as blowing over the top of a pop bottle with varying amounts of liquid to create notes.

This sounds more airy,... no tone. As if a door is open or window is down a bit.

It has disappeared at times. Say I am driving, and the road surface changes slightly, like at some exit ramp or a bridge expansion joint, it might disappear for a very short while, but as soon as that little stretch of road is passed... it returns.

    Who can relate?

Is this related to any of the current TSB?

    Anyone have a fix?

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I think there is a vent on the rear wall

Ya, that is what I was thinking.

I saw some photos here once, where a guy put some sort of dampening over it, but I was unable to re-find the thread. I actually thought it was part of a TSB for the other cab noise issues.

The noise is really starting to get on my nerves...

Push the re-circulation button when the air conditioning is on. If the noise diminishes, then the problem is the vents on the rear wall.

I took some sound mat and foam and applied it to the rear wall. Helped quite it down a lot.

Did you post this in another thread? It looks like photos from the thread I was looking for. Thanks for chiming in!!

Have you got a link for the sound mat / foam you used?

    How dense?

    How thick?

You mean turn it off and the sound should reduce, or am I backwards on that.

I've been running the AC both ways. Am not smoking in the truck, but have a vape I use in a pinch, but turn off the recirc so as not to suck all that vapor in the unit. Hadn't noticed a difference in the wind noise either way though.

Having done quite a bit of sound deadening on my ride, my advice for quieting the vents... effective, easy, and cheap: put foam like captqc and skip any dynamat type application. Matting around the vents will not do anything to quiet the vents, you have to put something between the vents and the cabin interior. I believe polyurethane is good for this type of noise. I put mass loaded vinyl (MLV) and it works quite well; but, it is heavy, expensive, and was a major pain to install in my DC with JBL sub and sliding window motor.

Yup, this was in another post. The sound mat was some old stuff I had in my garage for years and I threw out the package so I don’t remember the brand. It is pretty thick and because it was so old and stiff I used my heat gun to apply it. The foam is 1” thick like what comes in a Pelican case. I also sprayed in undercoating wherever I couldn’t get to with the sheeting.

When the recirculate button is off (not lit up) outside air is entering through the front of the cab and forcing air out through the rear vents. This causes the little rubber flaps in the rear vents to open allowing road noise in. When recirculate is on (button light on) the flaps tend to stay closed so less noise. Makes a big difference in my truck. If you don't notice a difference, your noise is probably coming from somewhere else.

Took a closer look at the rear sliding glass. It really doesn't seem to latch tightly.

It latches, but there is movement. I'm guessing lots of the noise is coming from here.

Any other access cab, manual sliding rear windows like this, or is this a dealership issue?

Put some masking tape over the suspected areas of the window and see if that makes a difference.
