Just made one for my pups yesterday. Here's how it turned out. I used 3/4" plywood that I had already, and carpeting from home depot. My dogs are small, so not much reinforcement underneath, so I have more access for cargo underneath. I pulled the seatbelt receivers up to hook their harness seatbelts into.

Here is the platform I built for my 3rd gen. I built it haphazardly with a friend. If I had done more research I would have removed the rear seats first. Oh well, still turned out okay. Stapled stereo box carpet to plywood. Its not super well done but it works.

Had a platform that sat on top of the seats but my 2011 has the raised center console, and it just made the platform way too high for my pup, She fights me on hopping up there daily.

I finally got around to removing the seats, center console and headrests. 3/4 ply, piano hinges and some Home Depot indoor/outdoor carpet. It’s a good 6” lower with 24” of surface. Very happy!

Finally got the cushion in as well!!

Has anybody made one with a ramp or steps for a old dog?

Nice! If I do another one it'll be this way instead of the drawers I did. More space and easier access.

Love the idea of keeping the seats in and having it easily removable for humans

Had it like that for a while and it worked, but my 80lb hound dog hated jumping up there and due to the extra height her nose was next to my face the whole time, I rarely removed it for other people since I stored stuff under it as well so it made it kinda a pain, if I had to take a third person they’d just ride on top of it. Now it’s actually more comfy for a third person (short trips).

Just finished a 10hr round trip and Roma slept the whole time, she and I are so much happier with this setup, and I love the added visibility from the headrest removal as well as access to tools and stuff underneath.

Yeah, but the only humans that are comfortable in those seats are pretty small ones. I've only had someone back there twice and they bitched the whole time. :)

Thanks! I made a cardboard template then turned it into a cad and cut it out on the cnc, I’ll post the .dxf of the sheet layout next time I’m in front of my computer. Doesn’t have everything, but the top is the most important, the rest is just straight rips of 3/4 ply.

You did an OUTSTANDING job on this! I want to build something very similar for my 2011 AC. How difficult was it to do the carpeting? I'm pretty good with woodworking but I hope my carpet skills will cut the mustard.

Do you have any tips, or even better; do you have cutting dimensions for the pieces?
I like the flip-to-the-side compartment lids.

Thanks! The carpeting is easy, just get something without rubber backing, I got a piece of indoor/outdoor carpeting from Home Depot maybe $20. Use super 90 spray adhesive, and spray both sides, secure with a staple gun. I just cut and fit a template out of cardboard and it worked pretty well, I have the luxury of cnc access so the cutting is very easy, but if I were to do by hand I’d use a jigsaw to make a template and route to it. Use piano hinges cause they work well in this situation.

The only thing I dont like about the side access is i have to fold my seat forward a bit to get it to open fully, but it’s really not a big deal.
