Just because something is natural doesn't mean that it's better than a synthetic derivative. For instance, If I have a headache I can walk down to the creek and strip me some willow bark to chew on, but then I'll have traded my headache for a stomach ache. Better to take synthesized aspirin that has only the active ingredient I need and not the side-effect causing substances I don't.

Compounds found in the foliage of plants are usually toxic, as their purpose is to dissuade animals from eating said plants. Monkeys in the wild will often eat charcoal or clay if they can find it in order to help detoxify the "natural" plant material they consume. There is nothing natural about smoking anything.

marinol is prescribed for pain, wife-who died from cancer tried it, was useless. eventually got her to smoke real stuff, was better than any prescription pain killer. And she tried them all, the side effects or the potency were problems.

My father died of Cancer 2 years ago sorry for your loss I kinda of know what youve been thru,we never thought to ask him abouting smoking Marijauna he was a an SArmy Vet and a Correctional Officer too so it seemed like an out of the question thing to do? They gave him heavy doses of Morphine until it induced a coma then the Cancer took it from there,so to me if Marijauna helps these people then im all for it from that point of view

I have no personal experience with this substance (probably never will) but people need to wake up and learn about its history and legislation, as well as the science behind it. Marijuana has been over vilified in the US. Its funny to hear people constantly rail against marijuana users while they themselves are slaves to companies like Marlboro and smoke their lungs into oblivion. In my opinion, Marijuana is a vice just like alcohol or cigarettes, and legalizing it would only give people something else to do at 5:00 or on the weekends. In moderation, countless studies (including the LaGuardia commission, the first in depth study, which was discredited by the Fed and recent ones) show that the effects on the body are not what the propaganda over the years have shown. Just a side note here but go look up some of the old ads than ran...they are absolutely ridiculous.

Furthermore, I strongly believe that taxes are a MAJOR benefit of legalization. A high tax levied on this commodity would in theory earn the government an obscene amount of revenue, given that a large part of the country most likely overpays for this product. Its my guess that part of the cost of an illegal drug is attributed to the legal risk involved in growing and selling. If this cost is taken away and replaced with a tax then prices remain essentially the same. I predict that drug related crimes/violence (especially near our southern boarders) would be reduced.

And lastly, Im not going to say that there are not negative aspects to the drug when they are apparent through scientific testing. It's just that there are equal or lesser negatives compared to alcohol and cigarettes and yet time and time again the government treats the substance like a death wish and its users like criminals.

Why? The thread is soliciting input into whether or not we think it will be legalized. You're assuming that if someone is against it, they must never have used it.

As an old hippie, I enjoyed it in my past. There are medical benefits for usng it; ie: eye problems, pain, nausia during cancer treatments, and so on... Also, if tobacco and spirits are legal why not pot. After an evening of partying, do you want to encounter a drunk on the road or a stoner going home for the night... I am in my 60's and find it amusing that the younger generation is so conservative. Relax and enjoy...

    http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-9077214414651731007&hl=en#

This is an amazing documentary. If your curious for info on the subject of marijuana to help guide your decision when voting on the subject PLEASE watch this film!!

I swear anyone who watches this won't regret it. It's an eye opener to say the least (and this is coming from someone who knows a bit on the subject)

If you have the habit of wheeling... You can not afford to smoke weed. I promise that it will not Make you smarter (especially while doing it)

    And it will:
    1. Make you spend money on replaced phones left on the top of your car, and a bunch of other items that you loose.
    2. Grow man boobs - mainly 'cause it certainly does not incentive you to work out
    3. Not impress your boss that you need a raise!

1&3 - both examples of being irresponsible with the substance (don't smoke and drive & don't smoke and go to work

2 - anyone who is gonna have man boobs because they dont work out would get them with or without the substance

No one agrees with the misuse of marijuana, not even the supporters. You need to separate the use of the substance and the abuse of the substance, both vastly different things.

Have no desire to use marijuana but I'd legalize it.

Businesses would ramp up their testing regimen so there would be an ecomonic incentive to not smoke it. Insurance would test for use too I'm sure so more incentive.

It would still be illegal to drive under the influence.

And we could tax it to fund other parts of government.

Don't get me started on prescription drugs haha but seriously...

Please take some time and do some research on the benefits of the substance.

There are reason's people, even doctors are fighting for medical marijuana and trust me its not because they are a bunch a pot addicted stoners. :p

Maybe even watch some of that documentary i posted, it's interesting shit i swear. haha
