The fortin is complete plug and play for the hkey assuming it does not have tpms sensor. If it does you have to tap into that wire.

I have a 2018 PTS and installed the 12 volt solution with the cell phone module. The system as a whole works fairly well and was extremely easy to install but the cell phone module has some issues. The cell phone module that came with mine is the car link ASCL6, as others have said the truck must be in cell phone range for the module to work. I originally had the module zip tied under the dash but was having issues so I moved it up by the windshield and it works a little better. I have also found that sometimes when I try to start the truck, the icon on the app will just spin for a long time. When this happens I close and reopen the app, then try to start the truck again it will start with no issues.

The biggest complaint is with the noises that the phone app makes when commanding the vehicle. How obnoxious the sound is seems to be dependent on which cell phone you use.

I've been looking at the 12volt solution system harder lately, as temps are rising in Oklahoma, and having a cool truck to get into after working out in it all day is something I miss from my last ride.

A question about the cell phone option with them though.

They mention it is on the Verizon network. Just what are the ramifications of that? If I'm not on Verizon, is the cell phone option useless to me?

Any phone mfg or provider will work
They use Verizon cell phone repeater towers for their signal that's all

12 Volt Solutions does have a plug and play kit for the H key. I know, I have it installed in my 2017 with the cell phone app. While a little pricey, it works, and was easy for this old guy to install. Unlike the push start kit, the H key solution WILL stay running when you open a door and only requires you to insert the key and turn to ON before you touch the brake. Any brake press will otherwise kill the motor.

That’s how every remote start added to a regular vehicle works. But you are correct it’s a full plug and play. That unit is made by Fortin, 12 volt solutions is just reselling their products as a kit like already explained. I didn’t realize they made a direct connect harness for the Evo One module with 128 bit keys. It’s been probably 4 years since I used any Fortin products last. They have more of a dominance in the canadian market.

Does not affect you regardless of provider you have for your cell phone. It’s what towers the module uses via contract with the company that manufactures them. The only thing it affects that you have no control over is Verizon coverage, which seems pretty good.

As an update, if you purchase the 12volt smart add on as of last week, you’re getting thier newer 3G models. Anything purchased in the past is running off CDMA, which to put it in perspective, is data speed we had in the late 90s early 2000s...almost equivalent to 1G. Yes, these things are not data hogs so there is no need for 3G/LTE, but it comes down to coverage and not bandwidth. I recently dealt with these issues and replaced mine with a 3G unit because my app/module was hit or miss when it came to connectivity. It was always hunting for a signal. If it hunted for a signal in one area with less coverage, it never snapped out of it when I went into the city. Mind you, I’m not even rural, still in LA county but live on a cul de sac wrapped by hills, like a mini valley...my att and Verizon phones work great on 3G/LTE where I live, which made me probe and expose this little secret of theirs. They dug into CDMA coverage at my location and deemed it necessary to be replaced by the 3G unit they now only sell. Needless to say, no issues whatsoever ever. If anyone has questions on how to go about resolving this very issue, PM me and I’ll tell you how to go about getting it swapped out. I’m on a first name basis with 12volt solutions and MyCar in Canada who sells them the modules and developed the CarLink CL6 app.

    @dmc13579

@Loudog504 - is a member on her that I’ve personally spoken with on the phone about it when he first said he was sorta experiencing the same issue.

If you’re within warranty still, I can help you get a replacement/upgrade to the latest 3G version!

I was looking at their (12V) website (again), and noticed they are local to me. Just a few miles away. Now I am wondering if they will do the install??

But it’s soooo easy...you’re paying for plug n play so you can avoid paying someone :) watch the YouTube video, you don’t need to be technical or handy, just good at following directions! They may but keep in mind they may also refer you to an installer because they are only distribution and don’t want to assume liability. Seeing how it can’t be done wrong, there is nothing you can do that would hurt or mess up your vehicle:thumbsup: worst case find another TW member on this forum comfortable doing it and tip him some $$ and a beer to celebrate the 20 minute job ;)

Ya, it's easy enough. Not to mention I'm pretty handy with tools. I just hate taking paneling off inside vehicles. Always have. Something inevitably doesn't go right. A lost screw, one not tightened enough, pinched wire, starts to rain about halfway in, etc., etc.

It’s 4 screws, two at the column and two at the bottom panel and pull back. Easy peasy.

Ordering some more remote starters tomorrow if anyone is interested.

I called and tried outright asking for one and the best they could do if I place the order over the phone was free shipping...about $8. Didn’t care for it because I prefer the paper trail. Try calling and telling them you’re a first time customer looking to order both at the same time, “what can you do for me?” Or ask if signing up via email for marketing yields a first time buyer discount code then just do that. They never have any codes advertised online...ask if there is a 4th of July discount code or sale? Sign up for emails before the 4th just in case there is, then unsubscribe after...

Think I’m going to pull the trigger on this with the smart phone module, that said they can do 10% off the module with free shipping for over the phone order if both kits are ordered. I really like the gps feature.

It has been mentioned many times here that 12 volt solutions (and others) " are simply bundling and reselling, etc........". I for one don't care what they are doing or how "simple" it is.

I appreciate the 12 volt for doing it for the Tacoma, doing it early and promoting here. I bought my truck in 2016 and there was no factory or other option for some time. 12 volt delivered fast AND was quick to answer a question on the weekend when I did my install.

And it sounds like 12 volt and whoever they are working with is keeping up with needed changes. Support a good vendor!
