Received my tune files last night and haven't flashed yet, is it okay to run 93 octane fuel with the 91 octane tune? I'd rather just run the 87 if it is better for the truck.

I’ll very happily pay $6,000+ on twin turbos.

87 works great, but once you run 93 it can be damaging. to your wallet :)

While the 87 tune dramatically improves the driving characteristics of the truck in many many ways, that extra giddy up and smoothness from an engine that already enjoys the top shelf stuff, tuned to get a bit more power out of it is hard to digress from!

Shell or Chevron premium seem to perform best based on my very unscientific experience. VPOWAH!

Thanks for sharing your experience, I am sure the pros will outweigh the increased cost of fuel

I have no doubt the turbo kit (tuned) will be less than that Edelbrock 7500 quote. (if it's even a real quote)

6k is a perfectly reasonable price for a kit that includes turbos, tuning, injectors, plumbing and electronics, manifold, wastegate and plenty of other crap. i have never bought a turbo kit, always just cobbled together items for my previous boosted builds (sr20det, s50). a full kit is going to make things much easier

Remember that the supercharger kit is installed (obviously easier to install a SC than turbo).

Turbo will require a decent amount of knowledge to install.

Since this motor is fairly widely used across Toyota/Lexus lineup there should be some info out there on how friendly it is to added boost. Anybody have any info/experience? Would be nice to know ballpark the numbers this motor can put down reliably with a twin turbo setup.

Also, if this setup is truly <$7,000 all in with tuning, supporting mods, and fueling upgrades that is quite the deal. I've tuned almost all of my VW's and thought getting a Toyota would save my wallet, but apparently not so much...

considering it's in brand new cars and not really in anything people boost, nobody knows yet, but I do intend to find out.

Tacoma really gave the Tacoma owners the shit end of the stick with that power though

Anyone with techstream want to play with some 1.05 settings. Looking for someone with access to 93 octane. Full exhaust ("header" back), stock or aftermarket intake.

send an email to support@ovtune.zendesk.com Title "1.05 Logging 93 octane"

What is actually different in those engines between models or is it SOLELY the tune that allows it to achieve more power?

Tune and Rev limit. Even the camry tune that quotes 301 is barely different. I swapped over the tables and didn't see more than like 5hp

Guess, I was incorrect in assuming the motor had been around for a while since it's Toyota...

Really would love OVTune doing a 2017 Sienna test vehicle for the lolz :D

Just ordered, how easy is it to switch between the 87 tune and the 91 tune? Like for different seasons, high gas prices, road trips, ect.

When is the new transmission tune going to drop?

Asking because my 17 was able to get into 6th and cruise on the freeway where my 18 is useless and cant get into 6th gear at 75(both running the same lift/wheel/tire). The difference I can recall is I had the ECM/TCM flash vs just the ECM on the 18.

Mat has said that a new TCM will be released with the 1.05 tune.

Easy, just pick the tune and wait the few minutes for it to flash and you're good to go.
