I think we ought to do a test and see, I do remember that being something they stressed back in automotive School. Said stuff like, aerodynamics are King.

I can't imagine the skid plates would really add that much weight. and honestly I think you have to add a lot for it to really start to do anything.

77lbs for aluminum and 152lbs for steel skids, and that's back right past the transfer case. While there might be a slight increase in aerodynamics and improvement in MPG I doubt it would be any meaningful difference.

Hmm, I see what you mean, you know I've seen people do those crazy aerodynamic mods and stuff, although I was never sure how they figured it out without a wind tunnel.

Time attack dudes will line their whole undercarriage with a thin plastic for better aerodynamics. I don't think this would help much on a taco though.

One other thing to check. Fan Clutch. If it's stuck on can reduce mpg. At 150k mine was rusted in the always on.

What gears in diff's? With 3.73's I can see it if you start slow and go 0-60 in 5mins and then somehow get the overdrive to kick in when the speedometer still reading 60MPH and let the weight of the tires keep you steady rolling at 70MPH at 2000 RPM's, never using the brakes or climbing hills.... otherwise whats your secret?

Heh, I drive mine like I stole it, if something breaks, I "Tim the Tool Man Taylor it... arrr arrr arrr", fix it and replace with over-kill better part :)

I drive it like I stole it around town. On the highway for long hauls it’s down to eco driving. Keep the throttle as close to 2k rpm as possible (70-75 mph) build speed going down hills so you don’t have to use as much throttle going up the next one. It’s common sense...

My 12 did this at 110k miles and I was getting 12 to 14 maybe 15 or 16 on the highway. That's why I traded. There was some other things to but mostly that.

In my V10 F250, yes. That's about what I get city driving. Your Tacoma should get much better than that.

Was also going to sign to clean the MAF sensor, I did that recently and wow it actually improved power and raised the mpg a bit.

3” lift with 33’s and I get around 16 running hard about 82 on the interstate, almost the same in town.
