Head Unit on the ground....Sparks everywhere.... Alpine KTP445u

Actually the head unit is on a table....

Need quick best practice for install of Alpine Ktp445U . Have off today only. I am sure some many other of our 3rd Gen. Brethren would be interested in this inexpensive and easy (if you have a best practice) upgrade. So please, if you are savvy help.


Questions:

Best way to power, and best alternate.....

Best to battery or inside cabin fuse? and which?


If to battery which route is easiest?


Remote switch and you....Explain..

Front HPF dipswitch settings, with my particular setup ( the options are off 60hz, 80hz, 120hz)


Rear HPF : Off, 60hz, 80hz, 120 hz

Cut off amp input RCA Jacks and splice in front and rear speakers...?(have no other harness')

mount point of this lil amp? center console/...seems cool... behind amp? see good grounding points...

behind the glove box? can more readily access gain...

what gain does and how to set it...

be quiet!-- any noise considerations? in terms of connections, etc..

For the amp, I would run power from the battery. I believe there is a grommet on the firewall on the passenger side.

FHP I would set to 80hz, RHP I would set to 120. You can always change the front if you need to.

Are you running a sub?

The gain is NOT a volume knob. You want to match the output of the radio. There are a couple ways to do this. I prefer the SMD DD1.

Make sure to have a good ground, then there should not be any noise.

Did you get it installed?

 

Gain adjustment is where you match the output level from the source device. It's best set with an oscilloscope or even a voltmeter. However you can get get it fairly close by setting the source device to about 75% of max volume and start with the gain on the amp all the way counterclockwise. Slowly increase the gain to the point where you start to get distortion in the speakers. Back the gain a little to remove the distortion. Try a variety of songs or other genres you listen to come up with a good place to set it.

This is not nearly as accurate as setting with an oscilloscope or even a DMM and a test tone.

 

She’s running. But the back speakers are not correct.
So until I fix them I set it to a two speaker output. And the system sounds amazing.

Did not connect the remote wire so I hope I don’t come out to a dead battery.

All 6 speakers going. Wow. Do this. My install is not yet neat. But it is complete. And it sounds so bitchin.

Wanting to use an actual music cd for tweaking, I used a special cd.

 

Any help with these settings. I cut off the rca’s and chose speaker level. Not sure about these hpf settings in my particular system. Any people care to comment that are in the know.

Front High Pass / Rear High Pass are the crossover settings. It will remove the lower frequencies (bass) from them. Most amps have more adjustable crossovers than just two frequencies. If the 80hz is too much bass int he front and causing distortion, use the 120hz setting.

 

I’m actually looking to do this exact setup now. Are you still happy with it? Was there a harness to buy or was everything spliced?

I'm looking to see if I can piggy back the 2023 Entune 8" non-jbl power/ground for the Power pack...
Also have you seen how impossible the dip switches are to understand? In the instruction manual it says "Black Squares are the positions of the switches"
The WHITE switches...Are the opposite of the black square on the unit...SO white UP UP on the unit is black UP UP On the instructions...

But when you look at the unit intuitively the diagram shows Down Down is HPF OFF...
I'm pretty sure I THOUGHT I had the HPF off but was actually running a 120Hz and I had a significant amount of bass that's why it's so confusing...
The manual and the unit use opposite colors to convey the same info...


Here I think the 120Hz HPF Is active, as the whites are Down Down

I also have to see how to use as much of the stock speaker wiring while still jumping to a crossover and back for components up front.
