Same. I just change filters and i've never had an issue cooling at idle. Turned the AC on before loading my kayak Saturday and by the time I got back in it was cool.

I didn't read every page of the thread, but if OP doesn't let the hot air out of the truck first that'll do it. Or his location is not updated to his current residence in Baghdad.

I personally never saw a need for it, as I always felt that the fan moved enough air at idle, but interestingly enough on an insanely hot day it is apparently not enough. $512 is still a pretty considerable chunk of coin to get a hand me down kit that you still have to hack and mod up to make fit, and even then, I don't think that it will work with ours because of the intercooler.

Are you able to obtain the individual part number of the updated pressure switch by chance?

I have always felt like our AC system is a total afterthought on these cars. Typical auto manufacturers let me charge you the absolute high dollar premium price for a truck that competes with other (at the time) comparable lesser priced branded models, but let's just skimp out on the AC system. I was actually pretty upset about it from the getgo because the fan speed on high to me just sucks and is God awfully loud.

Keep us updated for sure! The key here is making sure it will bolt up, if it will do that and the 3rd pin is just a reference for auto HVAC controls then we can simply do a pigtail swap and just cap off the third wire leaving it as a dummy wire, yet real the benefits of higher, and quiter fan speeds!

That would be great if it was. I can actually check on my end if you guys want me to.

105 is a pretty inconvenient temp for your system to shut off. I wonder if you suffer from the same issue we do.

I have been contemplating an e fan conversion for years for the main fan, but the controller failures is what has scared me off. I have never had an overheating issue and I feel that our stock cooling system is very reliable because of its overall efficiency and it's lack of an electric fan setup.

    Contemplations.

Baghdad would be 115*F weather on a regular basis.

The only thing I do not have is a reflective visor for the windshield. I use my common sense and open the doors and lower the windows to let the heat escape to give the AC a better chance to not have to work as hard to get going.

Top one is taco, bottom is newer style. I assume the outer most plugs on the newer style are positive and negative.

One thing that hasn't been discussed: Compressor rpm, directly related to engine rpm. Idle speed is low, and my truck does not increase idle speed when AC is engaged. Some other vehicles do, some don't. Back in the day, I checked temps and pressures at 1500 rpm, by holding the throttle cable open a bit. Can't do that anymore, fly by wire.

    My shit is all stock.

04044 motor and 04050 will not easily interchange. I had both in my hands at the same time this week. The 04050 motor is trash anyway. Currently they are back ordering like crazy because they are failing like crazy.

The new pressure switch (Mexico spec) switch simply adds a circuit to trigger the new fan relay.

Can you elaborate on this? Is it because of the size of the blower or is it the plugs that are massively different? I figured there was issues with it as I’ve seen a lot of threads from 3rd gens who had theirs nuke itself.

Fan only needs modifications if the truck has a trans cooler (tow pkg). The fan is an OE part borrowed from Mexico spec tacos (pun intended). All by itself it’s like $450. That is the bulk of the expense of the kit mentioned in the TSB.

Like I’ve mentioned elsewhere on the subject of pricing at the dealership; the prices are set by Toyota corporate. The dealer can discount. But, there is only so much margin. On the other hand, if a dealer is charging more than list price for an item, well, then I’d say call around to other dealers and get the best price you can. Call your local guys back and see if they’ll match it. Don’t try to knock an additional bit of money off either. He’s got all the numbers right there in front of him and will know if you’re bullshitting.

They are positive and negative yes. I am going to assume the thin pin is likely a 5 volt reference. I will check here in a little bit.

Idle speed is lower in D than it is in Park or Neutral.

I do agree though compressor operation does not increase engine RPM, which I noticed from the getgo, which I also found a little odd myself.

Funny, some of the testing procedures of the AC system directly from Toyota from the FSM when I checked procedures involves checking pressures at 1500 RPM as well.

    Shoot. Okay that makes sense.

Mexico spec as in trucks sold in mexico, not trucks produced at the plant in Mexico, right? It just seems silly to me they have all these different versions of trucks. Did they not sell the supercharger in Mexico I wonder? Because the damn LTR is in the way of the fan

Also you guys keep saying turning the ac on doesn’t change engine speed, but I notice when my AC is on my rpm will move up and down and I hear the compressor turn on/off. Are you guys expecting a larger move in rpm, or does your truck not do that at all? It only moves about 100-200 rpm

The mounting tabs are different. I’ll have to grab some pics later this week. Connector is no problem tho. Even if it is different, it can be had.

But like I said, the 16+ motor (04050) is seriously garbage. Wait for an updated part number before you try to swap. 04051 will likely be the next iteration. The earlier 04040 motor superseded four times to the current 04044. They were problematic as well.

On my truck it makes very little difference. Digital rpm readout from an Ultragauge.

My 09 V6 will up the idle when AC compressor runs. I have to remember to step on brake a little more or it will creep forward when I am stopped and not holding brake that hard.

Why do you sit in your car for so long? I'd turn it off and go inside if it was me.

Yes, when my truck cab is cool, the rpm changes as the compressor cycles off and on. When the cab is warm, no difference in rpm between D and P.

My 18 tacoma AC system works great. Get's really cold while sitting or driving. Have you checked your refrigerant levels? Had the system recharged since you have owned it?

My 05 is fine, I usually start it in the Texas heat, 99+, come back after a couple of minutes and I'm good to go.

100 to 200 RPM is a pretty notable difference if you know to look for it when you expect a change. I don't believe my RPM changes but then again, I could be wrong. I've been wrong before. Just ask my woman.

Same. It happens a lot while at a stop. It is highly annoying.

Because I'd rather not sit in the office with my co workers so they can bother me with work questions. Also, I like to take naps during my lunch.
