TRD Intake vs Aftermarket Intake

I've been in the market for a true CAI, what're your guys' thoughts on the TRD Intake (on sale online for a whopping 390) vs aftermarket intakes

 

urd makes the only true cold air intake

 

Exactly correct. the only difference besides the TRD logo is that the AFE intake box has a slot in the front for either drainage or a little additional air. The location of the small slot would allow the warmer air in though. It also comes with a plug to insert, instead of leaving it open.

$278 for 05-10 tacos 4L V6 with the pro dry filter!

 

so legitimately no real difference from the trd?? (Don't ask me why) but my mind keeps going to the trd intake

 

the TRD CAI is an aftermarket intake...just clearing the air...

but keep in mind that there are 2 version of the TRD CAI...

1st gen was made by AFE...like mentioned above you can pick up the AFE Stage 2 w/Pro Dry S filter...the 1st gen is no longer made...and its really hard to track 1 down.

2nd gen is now made by AEM...same company that makes the CAI for the Tundra...another thing to keep in mind...AEM was contracted by Toyota to make a carb legal CAI...by making the 2nd gen a drop in filter along with carbon filter...is allows people who like in california to pass smog check...

I say the downside to the 2nd gen is the carbon filter...its a little bigger than stock so you will gain some TQ/HP but overall it doesn't make as much power as the 1st gen...

URD does make a nice CAI...you do have to splice your existing wiring for the MAF sensor because it is relocated further down the intake piping...you will also need to purchase a shield to protect the intake from sucking in water...you will also need to cut a section out of the radiator support (behind the passenger side headlight) too fit and run the piping for the URD CAI into the intake manifold...MAF calibrator is a must for the URD...just so that your ECU doesn't run to lean or rich...but if you have the X-1 the MAF CAL. is not needed...
