These rounds flatten on impacts. So the polymer goes through the skin then the lead expands like a hollow point.https://youtu.be/tkjQv0CS0Y8https://youtu.be/3hqCwVG2yx8

Tack weld on the slider joint of the steering column, which is meant to collapse in the event of a crash, so tread carefully, and at your own risk. But, It takes all the slop out of the column. If you reach up and grab the steering column from below, and can move the steering wheel (unlocked), you may want to do this mod. Symptoms are that when on the highway, you are constantly correcting, with just a slight movement of the wheel to keep on a straight line. Most folks tack weld the joint, in the theory that the tacks would break first in a serious crash. Others have drilled and put in roll pins. It would also be feasible to use a press take the slop out.

I know I could benefit from this as well but no way I'd ever attempt it. Even if I found someone to do the mod, would still bug the heck out of me whether it was safe or not. (OCD thing) o_O

Here is the write-up that I used, read the early part, to get an idea of what they are doing, but you need to get down to post 42, as the OP was taking a whole bunch of stuff loose that doesn't need to be. Basically, you pull the clam shell around the column, unhook tilt springs, remove two allen bolts, and loosen at the floor board, and pull it out, tack it, and "assembly is the reverse".

That's why I mentioned the press. A machinist on here and I were talking about the possibility of using the press, and he thought that would work very well, if you used some sort of tool (he had a name for it) that created a dimple on each of the flats. This is a hexagon shaft within a shaft.

Yeah, I love that patch. Those taco patches he does are awesome as well. He still has Ivan tacos available. https://orezonadesigns.bigcartel.com/

Yep, married with a 3yo. truthfully, steering isn't that bad - I have certainly read some posts which describe it and sounds like a death ride in comparison. If you do decide to do the mod, lots of pictures and results please.

It takes one thing out of the equation. I did mine in under an hour. And I love the result!! No more wandering down the highway.
