Valentine One has saved me more times then I can count... In my job I drive a few hundred miles a day and my V1 is invaluable... Well worth the investment... and if all else fails be polite to the LEO and beg for mercy. My last ticket 81/65 (before V1) the VA state trooper reduced it on site to 79/65 (under the reckless driving threshold) then on court day I asked him if he could reduce it more and he asked the judge… 74/65. The trooper was just doing his job but he was a stand up guy, I showed him respect and he returned the favor... The judge hit me with a bigger fine but less of a violation. Using available technology and being respectful, both can save money in the long run….

Paying the $300 or so for a lawyer is much less expensive overall. Speeding tickets that will result in license points = lawyer.

...wow!! that sucks...i break it down in payroll...lets assume you make $20 per hour. that $160 per day, $800 per week, $41600 per yr, subtract 1.2% that is $499 on par with your true cost..thats sucks!!!!

This is good advice and If ever in the future I'll be doing just that. Since last year, cruise control has been my friend.

On the 395 South, just south of Boron.

This is correct for us in California. The "NO CONTEST" plea means that if a civil case is brought forward against you, the ticket can not be used against you during trail.

Trona is a very weird place. The whole town exists because of a huge chemical manufacturing plant. I go through Trona to get to Ballarat and from there we go into the perplexing Panamint mountains. I have only stopped at the gas station in Trona.

I have no ill-will towards the cop. Just the opposite. Besides, It was I who broke the law. I only get pissed when I am accused of doing wrong and was not. But I never let my emotions get the best of me. Better to keep a cool head.

    Yup. Good solid advice!

Lame, in my experiences that's what EVERYBODY on the road does in oregon and california. The consequence of speed limits that are too low. In washington the speed limits seem to be a bit more reasonable so you don't see EVERYBODY doing 15-20 over all of the time.

And to add to your point, in WA, we don't have the California Highway Patrol (I prefer the less respectful name for them, but I'll hold my tongue). My record is spotless, yet I still despise the CHP. Why? Because they prey on morons. Like they say, you are who you associate with. They're like the TSA, except on slightly more frequent occasion, the CHP actually do something good for society. Another problem I've got with the CHP [aside from their brazen attitude] is their flagrant disregard for the very laws they swore to uphold.

Note: In WA, cops [from local PD/Sheriff/Troopers] pull vehicles over for their speed, but in reality they are looking for something more important. I have known more people in my area of WA to be pulled over and let off with no more than a warning [whether honest or not] than any area of CA. But they crack down on DUIs and drug use.

I was pulled over last year for doin 82 in a 65 and i told the chp officer I wasn't paying attention because I was cruising behind a minivan and assumed a 90s van wouldn't be hauling ass and I was clearly wrong. I then said I mean no disrespect to you or your service but if you see fit to let me off on the speeding charge I would greatly appreciate it as I'm rather low on money right now.

He wrote me for no front plate but not for speeding. I deserved the plate ticket, i should have put my plate on when I got the new lower valance lol

Have zero ill will toward that CHP officer, I was straight with him, he was straight with me. I was pulled over in 05 for doing 87 in a 65 down the grapevine, its super easy to do, anyways chp pulls me over and says how fast do you think you were going? I say last I checked it was 80, he goes why did you put on your brakes when you saw me? I said "I never saw you, I saw that tow truck up the road and slowed down because there could be debris in the roadway and I dont want to lose a tire" he replies "What tow truck" I say, the one back up the road about half a mile that was hookin that car up" he says "whatever, give me your license and reg" and walks back to his patrol car, he comes back with a non correctable tint ticket and a 87 in a 65 speeding ticket, non correctable ment i had to go to CHP to get it written off which was dump because it ment I had to take it off :( THAT cop was and is a piece of shit.

Unfortunately LEOs in CA think its their obligation to increase revenue. Too bad that is A) not their job and B) not useful, because it will only support more egocentric LE activity.

when I was in college they had just (to my knowledge) instituted a point system in NY. I got 2 speeding tickets.. well one speeding one imprudent... Went to the city attorney and pleaded my case. "I can't afford the insurance and I'm just a student... etc.. learned my lesson etc.." So he only asked the judge to try me on a non moving violation. "excessive use of horn" and something similar got put on my record. Charged me more in fines, and had to pay a court fee. But yea, 500 bucks once vs 500 every 6 months or whatever.. Worked out. Wouldn't work out if you were habitual I imagine.
And hey... the money went to the city vs the insurance company. Its not like I ever crashed or used my insurance, so no one got cheated.

Don't know if it's true, but the DOT guy for hawaii was on the radio talking about their new train project and warned people that the county had asked the police chief to go nuts with tickets to pay for it.
