Sorry, not a 3rd gen. A couple weeks ago got out for a bike ride in the morning then a supermoto practice day in the afternoon

 

Took me a minute to figure out GF meant Gary Fisher and not girlfriend. I had some questions...

What model Transition do you ride? Also, how wide are the tires and what size are your wheels??.....sharp looking bike!!!

 

Just built from frame up, my first. Don't mind the missing rear brake, have to pickup appropriate adapter tomorrow to mount.

 

Thanks! It's a 2017 Patrol. 27.5x2.3" front and rear. Love it, just ordered an '18 Patrol so this one will be for sale soon.

 

What is the widest tire you think you could squeeze in the back? 2.6?....2.8??

 

I'd say a 2.5 is probably the max on the '17. I believe on an '18 it has increased to 2.8"max

 

Needed to add a little tri bike love to this thread (MTBer at heart though). This was just before Sunday's death slog in North GA.

 

I have no idea wtf that thing is [MTB / Enduro guy here...] but I do know I want one.

Congrats man! Super good feeling learning how to build a bike from the frame up. I swear figuring out the standards and what fits/doesn't is the hardest part.

 

Really a nice setup there. What spacers on your truck? I really like those wheels with that offset

 

@TatankaBlanco clean build on that thing, lots of nice touches on there. You ought to take a look at the mod to stuff a specialized shiv bladder in the frame beneath the stock bento!

 

Those of you with hitch bike carriers...which one do you recommend? It would only be 2 bikes for now, we have a baby trailer and will be in the truck bed so I don't want to cram everything in it. Only going to be using it a few times a year so don't necessarily need the best and most $$ out there. Just something that works and won't send our bikes flying on the hwy

 

I have owned them all from roof racks to hitch racks and I have settled on 1Up. They are pricey but they are engineered well, hold the bike solid and are so much easier to manage when moving from vehicle to vehicle. Kuat are nice but heavy as hell. Yakima's and Thule jiggle around too damn much. Another thing about the 1up is you can shrink it down to hold only one bike in an about a minute and a half.

 

SpiderTrax, thank you. Just took them off and went back to my bronze set up. Mounting those BFG's to a set of Icon 17" bronze Rebounds for the winter.
