Don't forget the VW synchro. Super cool, I converted one to a 1.6 td for a guy once. I still have the 5 speed diesel transmission laying in my shop

Think of all the cheap gear you’ll get when the fad fades.
I’d like to find the corporate marketing fuc who coined the term Overland. No shit you drive overland to get where your going....I never would have thought. End rant.

Last part. I’m pretty sure the next overland gotta have item is a 12V solar powered dishwasher, plasti dipped to match bumper, with morimotto
    upgraded interior lights.

I grew up in SE Alaska and crabbing for dungies was one of my favorite things to do! Nothing beats a pile of those bad boys freshly cooked right after catching them! Best shellfish IMO!!!

Spent some of my childhood in Sitka and king crab is great but when you eat it too much it gets pretty rich. I like the dungies too but today I love both.

All these years of me targeting dungees and overlooking the red rock crab. Recently I have been fortunate enough to find several large 6" red rocks worth keeping, and have to say I really really like the sweet leg meat from red rock crab over dungee crab. Unfortunately red rock crab are short on body meat. :curls:

GFC looks like a nice setup, reasonable cost. Headroom, versatility, stout build, no dust in the bed from the GFC. Tacoma tailgate and bedsides are dust vacuums. A rubber boot from GFC to the cab to enable access from cab to bed would be nice.

If that's the next fad that's fine with me. As long as the next generation doesn't continue the fad of busting up their empty beer bottles here, there and everywhere instead of carrying them out. Don't pretend older generations were some kind of pristine campers never to be matched again.

Only thing I can say about the older generation, is yes the 1st Gen Tacoma will never be matched again :D ha ha.
Smashed beer bottles suck, but what I really hate are those old metal pull tabs. Make the metal detector go nuts.

Sometimes its the old beaver tails that are the only thing in the ground sone days, otherwise I suspect my detector is not working right.

We were lucky to be able to catch both Red Rock and Dungeness. Red Rock is sweeter, but both are good.

Spent a lot of time in Alaska as a Coastie. Rescued 2 crab boats just out of Kodiak. We had to tow them back and they had no power on board so they said we could eat their entire catch. First boat took 2 days to get in, and second boat took a week to tow back. Almost a week and a half of king crab legs for breakfast lunch and dinner. I actually got sick of it.

"overland" is a fad, exactly like ditch lights. I know guys with RTT mounted to their trucks and they only sleep in hotels, just like I know guys that have had ditch lights on their truck for over a year on not wired them up. It will pass.

I bought into the hype HARD for a hot minute last year before coming to my senses, but to have a 1K+ paper weight on your truck is fuckin' ridiculous.

Did some research (read the Owners Manual) about the VW traction control. Below 25mph if the ABS wheelspeed sensors see a 100rpm difference in wheelspeed the faster wheel is braked. Pretty standard fare.

Now if I can get the Bilstein HD shocks delivered I'll lift it. Damn Shockwarehouse took my Paypal for a full set and I haven't heard from them since June 22nd. Can't contact them either, their contact # 800 245-7469 goes to recording and doesn't redirect to voicemail, says contact them via chat on the website. But chat is disabled on the website and they don't answer emails. Those bums are setting me back.

To top it off, I stopped by a local Eurovan guy's shop to pick up the spacers for the rear coils, his Australian Shepherd was so happy to see me he jumped up and gave me a playful nip on my stomach that ripped my t-shirt and punctured my skin.

Of course, being a studly type of overlander/glamper kind of guy I laughed it off. It actually wasn't a big deal, Shockwarehouse is certainly pissing me off though.

I bought a signal booster for my 4gLTE cellphone, $499. What level of overlander/glamper does that put me at?

I use my ditch lights all the time during deer season which was the only reason I bought them. They’ve helped me avoid hitting deer several times. This is only on back road ads in the mtns and logging roads

I've often thought about carrying a metal detector, seem like they could be fun except for the fruitless chases. Neighbor had one, a midweek day off I took him up to abandoned mines with the '98 Taco.

He found plenty of square nails, horseshoes, found a drainage waterpipe from one of the mines, he thought he hit a vein of gold, was hacking away sweating like crazy following the waterpipe. There was a giant waterpump still there in a pumphouse, steam-powered.

The one thing he found saleable was a copper weathervane buried about six inches deep.

I knew a guy who had an underwater array on the front of a pontoon boat. we found all kinda of shit in the albemarle sound. musket balls, cannon balls, a canon, boat motors, a wagon wheel with coins in each spoke, small meteorites, and a handgun for the Elizabeth city police dept.
