Why are you wanting a new truck? One issue doesn't mean everything else is wrong. Sometimes stuff happens, let Toyota fix it.

When I bought my Tundra in 2016, it threw a CEL on the drive home because the lot attendant "topped off" the tank which ruined the carbon canister. I took them 3 days to get the parts to fix it and left a real sour taste in my mouth about "ruining" a brand new truck. After it was fixed though, it didn't bother me at all.
I know it's easier said than done, but take a deep breath and let the warrantee go through it's process. In the end, it's just a gasket.

My only concern would be knowing how much oil was lost and whether or not the engine was run on low oil.

If it was I might push for a new engine out of the problem, if not just drive the loaner like an asshole.

I had a leak around the timing chain cover but as far as I know they did not have to actually pull the entire engine to pull the cover and fix it, though they did have my truck for about a week to order parts and get them put on. I didnt even notice a leak, they found it on the inspection they do after an oil change. I never even questioned the repair b/c it is a vehicle and repairs happen. I was just happy they found it before it got worse and caused real damage.

Not fixed yet. I’m sure it’s in the process as we speak. I was in the dealership last Friday dropping off the rental before I left for vacation. They were waiting for a few more parts before they started.

Service writer says pulling the motor makes the repair easier. Not sure if it’s true or not. I trust them. It’s their show.

Timing chain cover. Timing chain. Valve covers. Cams. All have to come out.

    Correct me if I’m wrong.

You know, things happen. They're going to fix it and you're going to have a new motor in a new truck. It's all good. If they'd discovered it as they drove it off the production line they'd have done the same repair and you'd never know it and never have a worry about it. the dealer is taking good care of you.

Also imagine if it was a smaller engine issue and instead of failing now it failed at 37,000 miles and you were just out of warranty? I'd rather the truck be sorted out now rather than have a surprise later.

Anyway, it will be fine. Enjoy your new truck.

Just fight for an extended warranty on the motor because it can’t hurt to have one. But yeah it’s much easier to do any work on the 2gr with it out of the engine bay.

I’d actually be happy they are pulling it... it means they are doing it right and going to check it over opposed to just trying to fix it quick

You are correct. But this issue has room for error when tearing everything down and reassemble. I’m sure everything will come back just fine.

Hard pill to swallow man. Hope you see my point of view

The plus side to this is, it doesn’t look like I will have to fight for an extended warranty. The service writer has already asked me if anybody has offered it to me.

I will take them up on the offer.

I don't see anything wrong with asking for something for your time, hassle and aggravation. A new truck might be a little extreme unless there is something wrong that has diminished the value or longevity. There are several thousand parts that make up your truck, and one defective or a misassembled part shouldn't necessarily be grounds for demanding another truck. Now, if it were me, I would absolutely start with that demand. Obviously knowing they are going to say no, but it puts you in a much better position for getting an extended warranty and free oil changes.

I checked the oil level Sunday June 24th. Level look just fine. I maybe drove it 100 miles before I took it to the dealership on the 27th.

I know I should have taken it earlier than the 27th, but didn’t think much of it to be honest. Truck had 400miles on it at the time. My thoughts were, “this is a brand new Toyota. Something can’t be wrong already”

Ask for an extended powertrain warranty but I don't think you have grounds for anything above and beyond that. If they have faith in their repair abilities then it probably wont cost them a cent to warranty your engine to 100k.

OP, I'd make sure you get an extended warranty for free, but they're doing what they can for you. The "truck" is just as new as when you bought it. You're just getting a new engine out of the ordeal.

The ONE thing you should request (at their expense) is an extended warranty. If not from the dealer, then from Toyota Motor Corp.

EDIT: Should've read the other comments first lol ... everyone and their momma said the exact same thing I said

Yup. It is. Toyota should extend your warranty IMO.
