Shed more light....I see what you did there.

I've heard this mentioned before but I'm not sure if it's an actual problem or if it's one of those things that just gets parrotted

I mean it is true that LEDS do generate less heat, draw less power over halogens, but is it a dire problem as people say? heading to bald mountain I accumulated I crap ton of ice/snow on my headlamps and they were halogens so YMMV on the whole heat debate

I will say that switching my dtrl to led have eliminated the melting issue that plagued the 2nd gen.

Yeah there's no denying that LED run cooler. I just have no idea if it's enough to cause the ice/snow build up like people mention. I'm sure it varies by region, with some places really needing the hot halogens whereas some can get away with led.

Yeah I agree, I just know that even the halogens are only gonna work for a little while longer before they get eaten up by the snow and ice....people swear by that whole "halogen runs hotter so it's better in snowy conditions" but by how much it is better? Based on what I saw....after 2hrs of driving my front end on the tacoma was pretty much covered.

I’ve been running leds basically since I got my truck and I didn’t have any issue with snow/ice buildup on my headlights. Youre probably right though, up north it might be a bigger issue.

Oh I misread your post a couple up. I didn't catch that you still had snow build up with the halogens. I wonder if you did the ultimate headlight upgrade where you throw some 90w bulbs in there if it would run substantially hotter.

Now that's a whole different ball game, I believe crashnburn has the temp readings that show those 90w sun blazing sob run considerably hotter than the standard oem type bulbs....

At that point you are rocking "freaking laser beams"

Edit- and stop speed reading my posts....jerk

They can handle large groups...might be a wait. I've been there with 15 people or so before during happy hour.

Cool, my BIL (and his Taco) is in town and my wife felt obligated to entertain him so it would be 3 of us if I come. What size does that make the total?

Not sure if I'll be able to make it out there. I have command pt at 1400. It's probably around 4 hours to get there using the beltway.

Check out my build thread (Beginning of Money Pit)
From personal experience, I need hot headlights. About 2 years ago we had that huge snow storm. I bought my 3rd gen in 2015, so I was ready. I drove from Manassas to herndon. Nothing was plowed, ice was forming on the wipers. My lights were gtg. I could see. No ice formed on them.

It took me an hour at 0300 in 4 wheel. Nothing was plowed. I'm a believer in the 3rd gen because of that.
