Hey guys, just like the title says I’ll be looking at getting new tires in the next few weeks so I did some digging into some more aggressive passenger tires. Really don’t need LT tires since I drive off-road once a year to go on a camping trip. Saw the oem wranglers for the pro and liked the weight but heard of wear issues so I looked at the next step up: The Duratracs and to my surprise they were passenger rated in a 265/70r16 so what do you guys think about them?

What load rating are yours? E,C, or P-rated?

Since you primarily pavement pound you could consider Mich Defenders. Great for light off road and snow too.

Looked at the Duratracs in passenger rated and saw they weighed about 40 pounds so only 2 pounds more than my current Firestone’s

Looked at those and was turned away because of how expensive they were

I was surprised as well after looking at them and thinking here’s another heavy aggressive off-road tire and was then surprised at how light they were.

Another question for duratrac owners how is the on-road noise?

Agree they are not cheap. Do go on sale at Costco 2-3 times a year if that's an option for you.

Brakes and tires are often some of the best money spent on a vehicle.

    Not bad at all.
Louder than a car tire, much quieter than a mud tire.

Well I agree that tires and brakes change a vehicle however, I don’t have a Costco nearby anyway just a couple of local tire shops that charge way too much for Michelin’s.

Great at first. Then they get mud tire loud as you put the miles on them. You might have better luck with the p rated, but my C's shook the steering wheel over 55mph no matter how many times I had them balanced. Life was more important than sitting in the lobby of the tire shop so I just got used the shake. I wouldn't get these again. But that was my experience.

Have you ever taken them on any 3+ hour trips?

Ok good to know that’s why I’m sticking with p-rated and these seem the most aggressive ones available so that’s why I was thinking about getting them.

The Metric version of the Duratrac comes with a 50k warranty, too, for some extra peace of mind about the purchase. They're not pinned for studs, but that's a non-issue anyway if you're running them year round.

Look at the new Cooper's. They come in c rated and p rated versions also. They look similar to these. They're just releasing them now
