Any advantage to having in channel versus the "regular" kind?

The ones I have on my truck now (11 years and counting) are starting to peel off. So I due for some new ones soon.

I've had both as well and the in channel looks so much better. I think the other ones look cheap

I think the ones I have now look a bit tacky too. Thanks for the replies, replete with pictures.

Same "performance" for both I assume, right?

They're really easy to put in. Roll down the window, pull the tape off, slide it in, and roll the windows up. I bought AVS ones from Advance Auto and haven't had a problem with them. The edge on them isn't as smooth as I would like but they're decent quality.

Thanks. After googling a bit I think the EGR (?) are the ones that look best. The weathertech's have just way too large a profile for me. I want something a little more low-pro/slim/sleeper.

Those AVS (assuming that stands for auto ventshade) are along the lines of the look I want too.

Exactly right! A pain in the ass to get off. Magic eraser works well tho. I got the in-channel ones now and they are awesome. Probably not the best if you have roll up windows because the window squishes in the gap pretty tight.

If you ever do want to take them off, Goo Gone works well with removing the adhesive left behind.

Like I said mine are peeling off and being the lazy a** I am, I just left them as is... but was strangely perturbed by the adhesive remnants. So I took some Goo Gone and wiped it off. Kind of a PITA but it worked well.

I went with the EGR and couldn't be happier with them. I definitely prefer them to the stick-on ones I had on my 97 Taco.

I like the in channel but it may jack with your window tint since they make the last coupla inches of rolling up the window a bit tighter. That would be my only concern, it happened on my passenger side window. I think the tint was cut closer to the edge of the glass than on the drvr side tho.

Good to know. I read a thread in the 2nd gen forum about tint and in channels and it seems to be the general consensus that if done right (tinting), the rain guards should not interfere.

I don't plan on tinting the windows, so it's moot for me.

I like that no one can walk up and decide they want them and run off with them since they're locked in place with the window up. Won't loose them on the frwy if the tape gets weak after bein on there for a long time too. Bet the tape gets baked over time especially if not parking in a garage or under some kind of cover to keep sun off.

Old thread bump! For a '99 PreRunner Xtra cab, I presume all I need are the front window visors due to the fold-out rear windows, true?

I have a set of deflectors for the cab's rear windows...
    but never installed them...
because I rarely utilize the cab's rear windows.

I prefer the external stick on type as opposed to the in channel.
I've had the in channel type in the past, on other vehicles...
and they ended up embedding scuff marks to the glass.

If folk complain that they look too large or flared...
it tells me they don't see much dirt and mud off the road.

I find them handy in allowing the window to be partially open...
while keeping water/dirt/mud that's kicked up from the front tires...
from entering the cab and coating the rear seats and cab wall.

Mine are 13 years old... and you wouldn't know by looking at them.
They still have their original sticky tape...
and have never shown signs of failure.

    Purdy damn durable IMO

I do recommend cleaning the surface that they stick to,
with a alcohol wipe, prior to install. (instruction say as well)

Yep that's what I thought too... I didnt see the need for the quarter window ones since those open out. Any-who... In-channel are the best bang for your buck!(IMO) I must say EGR is ideal for my 04... they fit perfectly, and I can still take them out when I run through a car-wash. I've also noticed the profile on them is so narrow that they almost blend in with the lines on my truck. I should mention I've got a black xtra-cab and picked the dark or smoke? ones!

    == bump
