Kind of easy for me. Every other vehicle here is a Tacoma so theres that, but mostly wanted a mid size 4x4 that can haul kayaks and surfboards and carry stuff to the beach.

Well.. long story short I needed a new truck and when considering between SUV and truck (need 4x4/awd) it just made sense to get a truck for home repairs etc. I commute for work so I didn't want an f150/Silverado, that and I like parking in the garage to keep sun, bird poo, snow, etc. Off the car. I test drove both the Colorado and tacoma (didn't even go to Nissan or Honda lol) and guess I just found the tacoma to be more of a "truck" in feeling and ride quality. The Chevy felt more car like and I didn't like that. This is the first toyota I've ever owned (actually not very popular at all where I live) which actually makes me like it even more because you hardly see them on the road. Anyways here's to hoping Toyota dependability is a real thing!

After owning other midsize trucks, I tried the tacoma. Resale and quality led me to buy a 10 sr5 that I drove till I bought a 17 sport. I bought my 10 for 24.7k and sold it for 17.5 after 7 years. That gave me a woody, ain't gonna lie.

I started out looking at the Colorado. Took my old car to Car Max to get it appraised and it died there. The guy who appraised the car told me if you leave it today I'll still give you what it appraised for, but you have to leave it today.

Called the sales person at the Chevy dealer I was working with to see what he could do for me on the Colorado. He didn't budge on the price, which surprised me since I was looking at the 2016 and they were already getting the 2017. On top of that it was two weeks before Christmas and you would have thought they would want to sell trucks. In the end I just think he didn't want to sell a truck.

I had called the wife and she was on her to get me since I didn't have a car. Across the street from Car Max there was a Toyota delaer and let her know to meet me there. Guess I should have started by saying that I wanted a truck but didn't need one. Went to the Toyota dealer and long story short the GM worked with me and I drove off with a new Tacoma as an early Christmas present :D.

Glad things worked out this way. Love my Taco

My dad used to have a 4Runner when I was a kid which I loved. Made me a Toyota fanboy ever since.

I was strongly considering purchasing a sports car at the time I bought my Tacoma, but I'm too practical to ever pull the trigger on one.

needed a vehicle that would tow and haul gas containers too. That ruled out an SUV. Best vehicle I've ever had was a '94 4Runner so I went back to Toyota.
Love my Taco now that I have ironed out the kinks.

I prefer the looks and cab space of the 4Runner, but I hated the drive train. If the 4Runner had a 6 speed, I would have bought it, hands down.

I was originally going to get a used challenger because I thought the tacoma was out of my price range, but then I ended up going to a toyota dealership just to see if I could afford the base tacoma. The numbers worked out for me and I occasionally think about how I could be going a lot faster. But then I think about speeding tickets and how helpful having the bed has been for me. Plus I enjoy riding high like the suburban that was my first so really have no regrets!

It’s all good. I can appreciate the razzing. I saw it on a RV forum and thought that was normal to refer to your wife as DW. I’m still learning this whole internet language, so I can use all the help I can get.

Do you need to know, or care?
Saw it, wanted it, bought it in 2013. Then they came out with a Gen 3. Saw it, wanted it, bought it. No specific reason other than I like it!

It’s interesting to see why you all chose a Tacoma. I was afraid it would end up being a thread bashing the less desired manufacturers. I read an earlier thread, where some posters were bashing Toyota for some of the equipment/lack of equipment the Tacoma was built with, and wanted to have a positive thread about our trucks. Toyota must be doing something right to have this many Tacoma owners.

There's certainly been enough of that.

Funny little addendum to my story: before devil woman I was driving an 06 Dakota. A guy at work bought a brand new 08 TRD Sport. Man it looked good... but I was fresh out of college and a used Dakota was about all my wallet could take. When I threw devil woman out on her ass, I went around pursuing full sized pickups but drove by a dealer one day and noticed a Tacoma sitting on the lot. I remembered seeing that 08 and wishing I had one, so it just clicked.

The moral of the story: if you pull a Tacoma up next to another comparable vehicle, Tacoma wins on looks alone.
