Oh I'll take care of it, but the amount I see some people wash their trucks on here I think they've forgotten they bought a pickup.

Hey guys, looking to plasti dip my rims tomorrow but would like to keep my lugs chrome. Are there any techniques besides just taping them and risking that it will peel off when removing the tape? Anything helps - cheers!

I’m just wondering if you can still roll through an automatic wash after this or will your wheels look like they have leprocey when you roll out the other side?

My wheels were plastic dipped by previous owner who also did the Toyota grill emblem. I did not know this when I bought the truck 2010 TRD Sport 27K miles. Found out after going through car was and one of the wheels pealed. The TRD Beadlock wheel were had Bronze center when installed. Peeled the rest off wheel and looked at it for couple of day to decide if I wanted all bronze or the black. I truck had been a different color than Silver might have peeled the rest. But in the end dipped the wheel.

I've done both methods, removing the wheels is easier but taping off the lug nuts works to

Having PD'ing wheels in the past, I would never do them again for wheels. They will not hold up when you have your tires balanced , more difficult to clean, and color fade over time. It's much more difficult to touch up any nicks and even peeling it off after a few years is a pain in the @ss. It's much easier to use krylon satin black rattlecan paint.

I got new tires installed at mavis(so not the highest skill level) and only 1 of the 3 wheels needed to be touched up.
They have been done for 2.5 yrs now and it's no longer shiny black but still looks good. Only a few tiny nicks.

Still looking good these days, I sprayed them in 2012, I'm shocked it's held for so long. Aside from a few places it's barely removed/scraped/flaked off, see below:

edit: disregard the flaking off rustoleum bedliner spray on the rocker panels, that's not plasti-dip.

temporary solution. they fade and look nasty once chipped especially around the lip/lug wholes. you will always be touching up. plastidip = poormans black wheels. spend the $ get a set of black wheels ie aftermarket or stock

I'm not too keen on black wheels, everyone has them...meh. But I went a different route when I plasti-dipped my wheels. I picked up a set of used FN Wheels Six Shooters for $150 with a small amount of trail rash and they were black, which I wanted the bronze ones. But being that all 5 wheels were cheaper than a single new one, I didn't care what color they were!

I got the Bronze/Gold from DipYourCar and went after it. So far they have held up for almost 3 years with no fade or peeling, it's not garaged and sees all conditions including winter and road salt. This was the first time I had actually take time to prep for for plati-dip though which made a huge difference, imagine that! haha

My rims were brand new when I plasti dipped them .. I did it for the winter to protect them from salt and brine here in Pa. . I sprayed over everything when I did mine. It’s been on since 10/13/19 and is holding up great . I may take it off this spring and try clear plasti dip on them Or go with a sealant. I can tel there dipped and would rather look at the finish of the actual rim and the red trd logo on the center cap in general thou the rim is protected from corrosion and wear .

Thank you for the idea I need to to dip my rims for the winter here, I didn't know they had graphite metalizer dip! How many cans of each did you end using?
