Could you just mount it on the main body and slide it out? I'd be worried about any sort of unbalanced weight causing torque against the hinges and support system.

the bottom of the mattress pad is velcro. the lid has a base of carpet. the mattress pad stays stuck to the lid when it's closed.

there is only a single mattress pad.

I see, and on the side on top of the bed, is there room to leave a deflated air mattress? or is it pretty tight fit

Thank you. One day ill get this.
Also do you know if people have figure out a way to take the habitat on and off easily? like suspended in the garage or something? I would like to have the option to be able to take it off with just my wife's help and be able to put it somewhere when I want to go pick up a motorcycle or something with the truck on the bed.

The original mounting system was not conducive to frequent removal and installation because the hardware was bolted through the bedside, which required drilling. The new mounting system using the original bed side rail system which makes it slightly easier to remove. Even so, there are no built in mounting points for lifting the camper off a truck, these would need to be fabricated and installed. You would also need a relatively tall garage ceiling to be able to accomplish this since the top of your bedsides plus over a foot of additional clearance over your roof is the height of the Habitat camper.

Adventure Trailers does charge an installation fee and the unit was intended to be installed by a value added reseller. After removing the camper, AT or your vendor cannot guarantee the performance of the bulb seals.

Yes you can install yourself. It's not rocket science. I paid for it to be mounted because kids.

Removal is easy. Unbolt the six bolts on the sides. Lift up one side, slip a couple 2x4s between the bed and hab, duplicate on other side. Slip a couple tow straps under and meet above at a couple hoists. Lift the weight off the truck and drive out from under.

Same way you would remove and store a wrangler hard top, or traditional pickup topper.

I just use the old military trailer to haul stuff.

awesome. Yeah, I dont think I would like to have it on everyday, since i do use my truck for other things. but I dont want it to be a crazy task tanking in and out. but from what it looks like its not too bad. thanks for all the imput, now I just have to finish school next year and then I can start making $$$ and order myself one of these. I need to follow this thread to see what you guys keep saying because I want to get the most of my habitat, but as it is, it's pretty expensive so ill see what people say. Also if anyone is selling one on second hand ill come cash and pick it up haha

yeah, if i found one of those other ones on a good deal, I may buy them, but the habitat looks the most promising to me even though is the most expensive one, you can sleep 4 and still keep your bed space. which is nice. IDK if something comes up at a good price i would definitely consider it

Good deal might be relative due to the raw metal tariff increases.

Hoping this location works so we'll be able to go directly from under habitat awning into the ARB awning room. Also hoping to avoid drilling a bunch of holes in the Habitat unless we have to.

My main concern is the extra weight when trying to open and close the Habitat. Especially in cold temps with the gas strut not helping as much. As for torque off the side... I weigh a lot more than my wife. And I already sleep on the opposite side :D

how are you opening it that adding 40lbs would be a problem, are you not opening it from the inside or something?

I'm opening from inside now, thanks to previous posts on here. Works great. I just worry when it's cold the strut might not slow it down enough with the extra weight and it would slam down. Might be a non issue depending on how much throw is left in the strut. I just want to be careful.

Could be an issue in sub zero temps, non-issue until 0F.

This is what forced air heating, 12v mattress pads, and fashy hot water bottles are for!
