I got the bolt off with my impact - I have a big torque wrench and it's near time to torque it back on

Yeah that's really why I wanted to make the tool to begin with, so I could torque the bolt back on. But it ended up that neither of my impact guns could take the bolt off to begin with. My IR air impact is only 600ft/lbs & it's old & tired from shop use. My Milwaukee mid-torque is only 600ft/lbs max too. But I could tell my IR air impact is stronger than the cordless Milwaukee. I had a Milwaukee high-torque impact which probably would loosen it but I gave it to my brother a while back. I don't think it would've fit in there any way unless the condenser came out.

I had to torque the bolt from underneath the truck, laying on the ground & a foot on the frame.

Good point - I had the engine out of the truck. Too bad you're a little far away or I'd ask to borrow / rent your tool :)

Not sure if there's a center near you but check out this website. They should accept fuel also. They https://dpw.lacounty.gov/epd/hhw/

I dump my coolant, lead acid batteries, & electronic waste at one of the locations near me. Only open on the Saturdays though, at least the one I go to.

Yeah, LB to SFV is a bit of a drive. Gas or shipping would probably cost more than what it cost to make it. But you're more than welcome to borrow it if you need. Not like I'll be using it again anytime soon.

Just because I looked it up earlier when @Prayn4surf asked me... Did you get a new crank pulley bolt? FSM says it is not resusable as it is TTY, but folks say that they reuse them.

I have about half a tank I need to drain - maybe I'll put half in my dd's tank and half in a container to dispose of and drive there for free lol

I reused mine. When I worked on cars for a living I've never replaced a crank pulley/harmonic balancer bolt & never had an issue. I'm sure Toyota recommends replacing it because the torque is so high on that bolt. Then again we rarely torqued crank bolts either without any issue. They say not to reuse head bolts either.....

If I still have this truck a need to take off the crank bolt a second time then I'll replace it.

Grade 8 isn't needed for the tool, would be nice but most spanner wrenches are made of mild steel anyway.

After extensive *online* research and finding that there are in fact two kinds of crank pulley bolts - one with a separate bolt and washer and later one with a built in washer. The second one is supposedly re-usable.

I think the size is the key - I made a prototype with a threaded portion that just fit in the pulley and it bent

And interestingly they had two different torque specs - the original was like 184 ft lbs, but never seen that one show up on a truck on here or in any of my 3 engines lol

Here it is: and I had it backwards - the originals had a built in washer image.jpg

Perhaps but not with my experience. I've bent so many of the bolts that come with universal crank pulley tools when I worked at a shop. Soft bolts & a loose fit is just asking for problems on crank bolts that are as tight as these.

Good spanner tools are hardened. Grade 8 bolts don't cost much more than grade 5. I rather have the insurance of not bending a bolt(s) than go through the headache of one bending & even worse getting stuck in the pulley because it bent.

I agree, just saying if he couldn't find any locally. I made mine out of 3/8 rod and worked fine for the one time use.

I have the original 2 book Toyota FSM, my copy says 217 ft/lbs & my crank bolt was the one with the washer that is not removable from the bolt. 217 is what I torqued it to.

In the little I know about torque and bolt size, specs are usually listed by shank size and thread type. In that case both of them would receive the same torque - but I know next to nothing about this stuff from real life experience

You'd be right in total torque capable, something else must be the limiting factor here. Maybe the washers load distributing factor or its effect on clamping friction.
