I've only ever used Valvoline. First in the biz.

I used them for a good long time then they kinda started to slip I got some bad batches of their race oils and left. Same goes with Penzoil I got a jug once and it smelled like old burnt used oil but looked new so that turned me off of them.

 It'd take all of 15 minutes to undo the drive shaft. It's like 10 bolts.

Actually I think I will do this later today. That way I'll know if I need to order a wheel bearing as well.

Lol I don't live that far North  And now I have an engine block heater, I don't mind going thicker oil haha

Should I go OEM or knockoff is good as well?

    Great explanation! thanks!

    Positive crankcase ventilation.

Eh emissions don't do anything to help engines run as they are designed. All they are doing is keeping/eliminating more carbon emissions out of the atmosphere.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they just used to let open air flow through the crank case to solve the blow-by issue?

Not unexploded gases it has nothing to do with the combustion. It vents the gases built up due to the reciprocating and rotating masses whipping around and creating a pressurized area. If you didn't vent them either with a PCV system or a breather filter you would be blowing seals out like crazy.

Yeah until like 74 or something like that. They just had a breather filter.

Knockoff is fine may not last as long but they are usually under 10 bucks.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crankcase_ventilation_system

A crankcase ventilation system (CVS) is a one way passage for the blow-by gases to escape in a controlled manner from the crankcase of an internal combustion engine.

The blow-by gases are generated when a small but continual amount of gases (air, unburned fuel, combustion gases) leak from the combustion chamber past the piston rings, that is, blow by them, and the piston ring gaps to end up inside the crankcase, causing pressure to build up in there.

The blow-by gases, if not ventilated, can condense and combine with the oil vapor present in the crankcase forming sludge or cause the oil to become diluted with unburned fuel, degrading its quality and decreasing its effective life. Additionally, excessive crankcase pressure can lead to engine oil leaks past the crankshaft seals and other engine seals and gaskets.

Ummm yeah I'll have to kinda disagree and say blow by is minimal in comparison to the the pressure/vacuum created by the reciprocating and rotating masses. If you have enough blow by to pressurize the crankcase it's time for a rebuild. That and the piston ring gaps are always and i mean always not lined up and those gasses have to get by 4 rings with gaps and an oil control ring. A non wore out engine will have almost no blow by. There is a lot of science to this that I really suck at explaining.

Yea sorry I didn't mean to imply that it has to do with combustion aid or anything of that matter.

I've never had it explained that way. Good to know.

Over 20 yrs doing this shit I have heard every incorrect definition and answer to questions more times than I can count. I have also been lucky enough to get some really good training from some pretty damn smart guys that probably have forgotten more than I'll ever know.

My generation is victim to the availability of a lot of open source incorrect info. It's always good to have a pro around.
