Tacoma - OVTUNE - VFTUNER - Update Info and Original Development

Never. Because 2017 tacomas have 3.5L engines

 

Happy Independence Day!!! Does anyone know how to check which Tune that is running on the 2017 Tacoma 4X4 3.5L. I have just put (I think) the latest and greatest OVTune on and do not know if it is the 1.04 91 or not?

 

It repealed only in certain low population towns more in central and southern Oregon. Definitely make sure the stoned gas filler knows you want the correct gas. I swear half the youth in this state is permanently stoned

Yes, have to be careful here in Oregon. I make it a habit to watch the folks pumping gas and make sure they press the correct button as I am on the 91 tune as well.

Mechanically how similar are these 2gr-fks variants? Specifically, do they use they use the same camshaft and valve springs? If the taco can breathe past 6000rpm, revving it out another 10%, will account for all the power difference. I.e. the Camry is also a 278hp@6000rpm engine.

 

Few years ago before the repeal, I was driving through Astoria and forgot I wasn't supposed to pump my own gas. I hopped out, swiped my card and started pumping. It wasn't till I was almost done that a confused looking attendant approached me. At that moment I realized I was in Oregon but decided to pretend like nothing happened and finished filling my tank.

 

I have some small vibrations when getting on the throttle at certain points. Almost like it does not want to shift. Would this solve that?

 

Guess Ill be running the 87 tune.... Random stop last night at Citgo had 87 / 89 / 93
with a .50 ¢ difference between 87 / 93.

I pumped over 17 gallons and it cost $48. +

1. I know I can't afford another $10 bucks at each fill.

 

so i only run 87, does the 87 tune get rid of that low RPM ping?

It's only noticeable when you put a little load on the automatic right before it shifts down.

Now that more and more trucks are being tuned some users are reporting issues of pinging / knock at part / moderate load.

Several months ago we ran into an issue with trucks knocking, stuttering and having ignition misifres (seemingly random). There was a TSB for faulty crank sensors, which controls ignition.

Also for everyone I realize for customized tuning techstream is a bulky mess, my logger is inching closer and closer. I expect it to be ready for public soon.

If there is anyone experiencing pinging I highly recommend run the 87 tune only until you can find out if your truck has a faulty crank sensor.

 

Thinking of purchasing the ov tune just so I understand you get tunes for 87 and 91 octane ? It’s not clear on the website.
