I welded plates into my cmc. (Well, Gideon here welded plates for me.)
I really preferred the clean look and lack of sharp edges.

Make sure you cut back far enough to account for thickness of plate going on.
Clean inside the mount before welding plate. After welding, get up in the mount near welds with some spray paint.

 

Yeah I’d just like to keep the factory look going for the mounts. Wouldn’t notice it unless they are really looking.

I did. Read it, saw the time, made the mental note. Then exactly 22 min later the whiskey made me forgot that I already had the info i needed when the wife asked. 2 min later the second reply was posted with devastating consequences. Laugheter will defiantly ensue. But Carter is always there. Always watching. Whether I'm calling a caliper a caliber, reminding me of the aop "wreck," or pointing out an obvious answer to the question I asked the in post I quoted. Never fails.
