I'm sure there is a different proficiency level between dealership employees who change oil and do routine maintenance and those that tear into engines and do major, precision repairs. At least I hope so.

I agree with you. But I do have total faith in the dealership returning the truck just fine.

At first, I wanted total replacement. I came here wanting advice and it seems like the general consensus here does not view it this way.

In Canada we do not have Lemon Laws to protect us from very expensive recalls or repairs from manufacturing defects. A Toronto lawyer is trying to sue Ford Canada for defective transmissions in the 2015 Focus. One I unfortunately purchased then sold. But I'm on the list of victims so hopefully in a few decades from now when it gets settled I may see some financial compensation!! Yeah right

I'm sorry to hear about your truck but I laughed so hard at this. From what I've been told, when you're getting Fd in the B, it's best to stay calm and be relaxed as possible. Losing your shit will only make the situation worse. Good luck.

I'll never say never but, highly unlikely they're going to hand you over the keys to a new truck. If they fix it and it all goes back together fine and nothing leaks (and longest extended warranty possible) that's about the best you can hope for.

OP, sucks your going through this but your dealer sounds amazing. Hope you get the extended warranty for your troubles. Flip side is now you can tell everyone you got a handbuilt motor, just like an Aston Martin.

My wife is in the same boat. She bought a new '14 Focus and next day was in the shop for 2 years for:
    - engine alarm
    - replaced fuel line
    - replaced gas tank
    - replaced fuel system
    - driver door latch broke
    - latch broke again, known problem and Ford has no solution
    - transmission shaking
    - transmission slipping
    - transmission noise
    - transmission feels like is dying
    - whole car shaking
Went to Toyota and got $4500 for it and got a 17 Camry. No problems in 17 months.
    It REALLY fit the saying
    Fix
    Or
    Repair
    Daily

Shitty situation to be in OP. I'm sure they will give you the extended warranty to make up for it.

I gotta say, you sound pretty calm and collected about the whole thing. I don't think some people realize how badly they would lose their shit if they were in your shoes.

I had my clutch and tranny dropped before 700 miles. Was hearing a noise like a spinning bearing when depressing the clutch pedal. DCH of Oxnard found an overtorqued pressure plate and replaced the flywheel. My shifts became much smoother after this fix.

Sorry to hear it OP, nothing we can say can make you whole or excuse such a screw up and disappointment.

IMO your number just came up and you got picked. But also imo TOYOTA has the best build quality than any of them and things can and do certainly get worst with them.

What you do and happens next, is however all that is really important here.

If it was me, I’d unload it and get something mint as I don’t like dealing with issues, but that’s just me, I just don't have the time.
You could roll the dice and hope everything will be put back together right to have a good chance of a happy trouble free car life.

But if the assembly line guy that does the same (insane) thing over & over, day after day at the factory can screw it up, what chance does a guy doing this once in a real blue moon at the stealership have of getting everything right?? IDK, a lot depends on a guy whom idk and not being a much of a gambler seals my fate and determines my decision.

Good luck and best wishes to you on whatever you decide to do is all I can really say.

You'll get a random check a few years from now for about $3.00 when they settle.

I'm really surprised at the number of people on a site basically dedicated to the modification of these trucks are absolute toddlers when it comes to dealing with something going wrong. It's an oil leak, which is going to be fixed by a mechanic that has probably torn apart more engines than you've ever driven. This isn't soup with a bug in it. You don't throw the whole thing out. It's a steak at your house that you didn't cook long enough so you throw it back on the grill.

It might sound bad that they are pulling the motor but this really comes down to making the job more accessible. You wouldn't want someone laying all over your fenders/components trying to do the work in the engine bay anyway.

As far as what I would do, it depends on what is being repaired. If it's just a leak that involves minor tear down of the head to fix a seal, take the extended warranty and don't worry about it. If they start replacing damaged internal parts that caused or were the result of the leak, I'd push for a new engine.

I have been very calm about it all. It’s a bum deal, no doubt.

My plan now is to pick up the truck Monday, get my extended warranty, and leave. Then part of me wants to drive it next door to the ford dealership (500mi and 30 day tags), and pick up a new F150.

I will probably get flamed for this idea, but like you said......some people don’t realize how badly they would lose their shit unless they were in my shoes.

I agree. It is just an oil leak getting repaired by a professional that has done it a million times over.

This makes the pill a tad bit easier to swallow.

No doubt pulling the motor makes it easier.

Now imagine your brand new Mercedes S560 using 2.5 liters of oil in 2K & you just paid $125K for the vehicle. Sounds like its getting a engine replacement but engine is on back order from Germany. Honestly your situation is not uncommon. Its insane how fast these vehicles get built at the factory. Surprised we don't see more problems than we do. Not trying to lessen the fact that it sucks yes but the dealership seemed to handle the situation very well. Keep the truck & move on with life. Funny you mention trading for a F150. The value in that truck will tank compared to your Tacoma first off. The 10 speed trans has also been problematic with its programming. Tech two stalls from me has a 18 F150 & has had it in to dealership 3 times for shifting issues/vibration. Last software update seemed to fix issue. He traded his Tundra in on it & is now regretting it.

OP I’m glad your sticking with it the extended warranty is like a free check to use and abuse your truck you know Toyota motors last forever but now you’ll actually have a Toyota backed promise. I would keep this truck till atleast the end of your warranty... afterall that is the only thing you’re getting for your trouble

I understood the application. I've only ever heard it used (in industry) in the talk of electronic components, though I could see it as a way to describe defects in bearings resulting in failure.... I've just never heard it outside of electrical usage.
