Usually when I haul stuff, I don't even pay attention to weight. There's only two loads in my mind... under max or too much.
Well today I picked up some pavers to help my daughter and her husband with some pavers. I just happened to check the specs and I had, including 250 lbs of me, right at a thousand pound load. I have read many posters talking about being on the "bump stops" and having issues with acceleration and braking and terrible squatting in the rear. Well, I call BS. My stock truck hauled 1K just fine. It accelerated a bit slower but still did fine. It still had suspension travel lol. It sagged a bit but not bad. So for all of those worried about hauling a bit of weight and making mods to haul it, here's a pic with a thousand lbs. You guys worry too much lol.

Nice for temporary weight loads, but I want to see a picture of it keeping the same load on it the whole time for a few months. With armor, sliders, camper shells, etc., many here do that and do need to beef up their suspension. You do bring up a good point; they were designed to be pickup trucks- made for carrying different loads around.

Why... if I add 25% of GVW permanently, then the base weight changes right? If the base weight changes, then other components have to change.

If a guy weighs 200 lbs and he wears a 50 lb pack for a four mile hike that's one thing. If he gains 50 lbs eventually he will have to make changes to his body lol. He will get
Exactly. If you add permanent weight you must make changes to compensate. But, if I have 250 lbs today and 500 lbs tomorrow and 1000 lbs the next day and then back to 250 lbs, modding for 1000 lbs is not practical lol.

You know, [Edit: before puberty] your bones get bigger when you gain weight or muscle mass to accommodate the added stress, so perhaps should one’s truck suspension.

Exactly, its called a 3/4 ton lol. But yeah, if you add permanent weight the suspension, drivetrain and brakes should be beefed up.

Yeah, he said he was in his writeup. I’m not as I added a lot of weight (to my truck!) :muscleflexing:

These tucks are good for upto 6400-6800lbs of towing. One would think for more payload capacity one would need only stronger springs and stronger axles.

I haul 1000 lbs+ almost every week in my gen 2, only problems I have are acceleration and looking like I drive a Carolina squat.

Lol wut? Your bones do not get "bigger" they get more dense to support weight.

    You hauled something once.

Try carrying half that weight in the truck for a month and tell me how your rear suspension performs then.

I have had 1000 pounds in my truck on several occasions and it squatted so I just added sumo springs and super bumpstops to help with the weight, mainly the SS springs in the rear it didn't squat at all compared to the back without the SS..

Between passengers and rocks I've hauled well over 3,000lbs at a time in my Gen. 3. It was set solidly on the bump stops and drove as expected... Like a truck with no rear suspension. I managed to haul around 8 tons of rock in total this way over several loads without an issue.

If you're hauling heavy regularly or need to haul some heft and still have solid suspension travel for off-road use you might want some mods, but for normal household duties these things are fine.

So what you’re saying is our truck suspension gets “denser” to support more weight too? o_O

No I wasn't saying anything in regards to our trucks. Just didn't need the misinformation of bones "growing" or getting bigger to support more weight floating around the interwebs.

Well, like with kids, my truck hasnt hit puberty yet so its bones are growing and are getting bigger as more weight and muscle mass are added to them.
