Oh ya, found a SAS for that buggy today, with matching rear end lol.

 

Way too much in my mind for a used truck, 17k out the door. I got new tires with it and it has every single option I would have picked. It also is totally stock and was at one point a toyota certified pre-owned vehicle. Wow these things really hold their value, I will feel I got a good deal if I get to 300k miles trouble-free.

Interesting. Very strange that Toyota will ship this model all the way to Guam but they will not sell in the US.

On a side note I had an uncle that lived in Guam for years. He managed a golf course there.

I've been driving my 18 TRD offroad manny for three weeks and I feel I need to reevaluate my technique.
I've been driving a manual for about eight years now and being self taught, I think I've developed some bad habits.
I sit at stop lights in 1st gear with the clutch depressed. Is it better to be in neutral with the break pedal down?
When I come to a stop, I alway brea, clutch and downshift to 1st at the same time. I can't conceive of any other way to do it but is that not good?

Also, and this is what I'm most worried about, I find that it takes a supreme effort on my part to upshift and not get a slight lurch. It doesn't feel smooth. Is it supposed to feel as smooth as an auto?

Ya, couple bad habits. Don't sit at a light, or anywhere for a considerable amount of time with the clutch in...its more leverage on your left leg than required, and the clutch doesn't like it either.
When you come to a stop, drop out of second when reasonable into neutral, coast the last couple feet in neutral, clutch not depressed (see above). When you come to a full stop, or close to it and your ready to go, put in first and go.
Shifting smooth is an art, to be achieved on a vehicle by vehicle basis...they all have individual personalities.

My $0.02:
- Good on you for doing your part to keep the manuals alive. You also get an extra notch in your man-card.
- "I sit at stop lights in 1st gear with the clutch depressed" Terrible idea, it will cause unnecessary wear and tear on your pressure plate, t/o bearing and clutch. "Is it better to be in neutral with the break pedal down" 100% Yes
- "When I come to a stop..." lift throttle, brake, downshift if you like, clutch-in, wait in neutral with you foot on the brake.
- "I find that it takes a supreme effort..." Your only 3 weeks in? My experience with multiple brands has been 10-30k miles for manual transmissions to 100% broken in. Maybe think about a trans oil change ~10k (Its super easy, I was happy with the Ford MT stuff).
- "It doesn't feel smooth... Is it supposed to feel as smooth as an auto?" Versus a car your truck has more weight and heavier drivetrain components. With some break in, maybe some PMCS and some reps. it certainly can.

I do not recommend floating gears on this truck. The synchros will prevent a smooth shift without the clutch depressed.

 

When at stops just leave in neutral with your foot off the clutch pedal. And when slowing, I like to downshift and rev match if possible and. When you are accelerating in 1st, try not to press the clutch pedal too fast. When you up shifting try to remember what rpm the next gear is at for your current speed and slowly engage the clutch when you're about to reach the correct RPM for the gear that you are shifting too.
